Achraf Hakimi. He is the most underrated defender in the world. While there's universal agreement that the best LB in the world is his teammate Nuno Mendes, when it comes to RB, people, often British people bring in names like Trent Alexander Arnold and Reece James. Many people seem to have a problem putting Hakimi first easily, or even first at all. It couldn't be further from the truth however, Hakimi is easily the best RB of the 2020s. That's including what he did before PSG too. Before we go to achievements let's look at him as a player. This is not your ordinary RB, who defends his winger and then runs forward to put in a cross. No, this is perhaps the most cerebral defender on earth right now. Hakimi does it all, flawlessly, to precision. It's not Trent who lumps in long balls every time he gets a chance that's revulotionised the RB spot, it's Hakimi. Here's a RB who first of all can actually defend, can go pace for pace against the best in the world but also has the ability to read the situation when the opponent slows it down. And when he has the ball? None of this lump it 50 yards in the hope of getting a ball through. Nope every pass is calculated, short 1-2s, diagonals, passes into midfield. Then comes the runs. He doesn't pass and stay still. Constantly on the move, on the wing, through the midfield, ending up as the striker even. Hakimi reads the state of play on transitions like Zidane or Ozil. He knows where the ball is going, which patterns to play and most essentially what pattern of the play he should be. This is something well beyond Trent who won't play an overlapping run unless someone begs him to. And yet when the ball is back to his goal, Hakimi is there, making lung bursting runs up and down, up and down. He is the complete package, pace, stamina, game awareness, passing ability, shooting ability. And oh did I mention, he can score freekicks too.

This didn't start at PSG either btw. He went to Dortmund on loan from Madrid and racked up 29 G/A in two seasons. Along the way he helped Dortmund come second in the Bundesliga and also won the German Cup. Next destination? Inter Milan. His first season there, Inter won the Serie A for the first time in ELEVEN years after that historic Jose Mourinho team. And Hakimi wasn't a bystander, no he was in the middle of it, creating 18 G/A in one season while playing RB. Up next, PSG and we all know what happened. 5 time French champion, 2 UCLs won, African player of the year, a whopping 72 G/A so far and a whole bunch of other trophies to boot.
