Last evening, I had the honour of being invited to attend the launch of the #PitchesInPeril documentary at the British High Commission in Nairobi.
The documentary illustrates the growing threat climate change poses to grassroots football. With community pitches being lost to floods, extreme heat, and water scarcity, the very foundations where we nurture Kenya’s next generation of talent are increasingly at risk.
With AFCON 2027 less than a year away and our goal of qualifying for the World Cup, the urgency is clear, we must transform these climate challenges into an opportunity to build a lasting legacy of adaptation for our game. FKF remains committed to collaborating with the government, development partners, and local communities to protect the spaces where dreams are built.
Present at the event were the British High Commissioner Matt Baugh, Sports PS Elijah Mwangi, representatives from the Governments of Kenya, Denmark, the UK, climate experts, and football stakeholders.
The FIFA Executive Football Summit 2026 provided us with an opportunity to attend two World Cup matches, the opening match between Mexico vs South Africa and Saudi Arabia vs Uruguay, as well as a tour of FIFA’s Tournament Operations Centre. We used this experience as a benchmark to learn from the best as we prepare to host the 2027 Pamoja AFCON.
The operations, technology, security, and fan festivals was a masterclass in event delivery, this was an invaluable experience and a great learning curve. From these engagements, FKF continues to benchmark global best practices and strengthen our commitment to excellence.
As we prepare to host AFCON in 2027, we will apply the lessons learnt from the Worlds biggest sporting event to ensure East Africa delivers a world-class tournament for Africa.

@Vinny_one1@husseinmoha If this was a failed federation FIFA wouldn't have given it the rights to host the tournament to begin with, secondly what are you doing as an individual to support the initiative lets stop the culture of always being negative when something positive is being done for our benefit
