One of my favorite moments in 26 years of working at public libraries is when an immigrant from a country comes in to get a library card and we go over all the services available. When they ask how much is a library card and I explain that it is free, the shock and delight is so incredibly heartwarming. Those are the moments that keep me going even when leaders attacks libraries libraries and attacks immigrants. Every country don’t realize how wonderful their public libraries are. At my public library we have books of course, but we also have a community herb garden, telescope, explorer backpacks, museum passes, video games, many streaming services, seed library, baby grand piano for recitals, and we are working to develop more library of things.
