People often hold up apps like Linear as paragons of software quality. In many ways it's great – fast, pretty design, slick animations, etc.
But the definition of quality should also include accessibility. It's hard to hold up a UI as "high quality" with lots of basic issues.
Realization: CSS Nesting also allows you to basically do "else" clauses in selectors.
complex-selector {
if-styles;
:not(&) {
else-styles
}
}
(if you’re wondering what this code is for, it’s for a bookmarklet to show element boxes for educational reasons)
Another cool CSS Nesting trick:
&& allows you to double the specificity of any rule while still having a single source of truth for the selector logic.
🧨 Unpopular opinion: try {} should have been designed not to behave like a regular block wrt block scoping variables.
It’s rarely if ever useful, since its scoping is not conceptually meaningful. Effectively, it’s more of a code annotation than control flow. Unlike control flow blocks, there is no program state that only makes sense within a try {} block.
The catch () {} block on the other hand _is_ actual control flow, and scoping makes complete sense there.
They’re really going all in on “just pretend this woman is trans” to harvest outrage. None of them will stand being corrected. They don’t care what’s true, don’t care about the potential consequences of transvestigating a woman from a country where being trans is illegal.
There's a lot of movies that try to do the whole "here's a story about an unredeemable asshole" but I really respect how in Annette's final moments, it takes the power away from our asshole protagonist to focus instead on who he hurt, regardless of his own guilt about his actions

Over the last five years, the salaried middle class has been rapidly dwindling, such that it has lost 45pc of its purchasing power through a mix of inflation and taxes.
A taxpayer is penalised heavily for being a taxpayer
