@CMShahanaHanif Why isn't NO HEAT OR HOT WATER FOR TWO WEEKS in BELOW FREEZING TEMPERATURES considered a "gas emergency" by @nationalgridNY? After failing to show up for a Thurs appt, they came Fri morning and refused to turn our gas back on.

We did everything they said and @nationalgridNY won't turn our gas back on. It's below freezing and snowing. Running space heaters all night, every night, is a fire safety hazard. Every night when I put my 18 month old to sleep I weigh the rsk of a fire vs pneumonia. EVERY NIGHT.

We made their new requested repair immediately. It's 4:30pm on a Friday and they said they won't come back to turn our heat on until Monday - after initially offering a Tuesday apt. We spent more than $25,000 replacing heat pipes and patched a small concrete hole they saw today.

So @nationalgridNY thinks it's fine for a building filled with children and people with serious medical conditions to wait another 48-72 hours to give them their heat and hot water back. When we have made every expensive repair demanded as quickly as possible.

@nationalgridNY Continues to fail my building of 30+ people, including many children under 5, elderly people, and sick people. Our heat and hot water have been off for 2 weeks. It is well below freezing outside.

National Grid didn't show up for an "all day" appointment on Thursday because we weren't high priority enough. They came Friday morning, found a new problem. We repaired the problem. They said they would come back Tuesday. TUESDAY. Then they said, fine, MONDAY.

@nationalgridNY said to DM them about our situation. I did! Hours passed - no reply! I guess they want the optics of looking like they care but are no more interested in a courtesy DM than a courtesy call to say, sorry, your emergency isn't urgent enough!

@nationalgridNY On Wed I was told that NG would come Thurs some time between 8am and midnight to finally restore heat and hot water to our building. I waited by my phone for 16 hours, called several times, was told repeatedly that yes you would come. But no.

We have another freezing night ahead (#14!) after anticipating we would finally be able to sleep without leaving space heaters running 24/7 (against fire safety recommendations!). Even with a heater running all night, my neighbor reported 48 degree temps in his unit this morning.

@nationalgridNY There has been no heat or hot water in my 16 unit Brooklyn building since January 5th. It is 20 degrees outside. We spent $25,000 making pipe repairs, had to wait to schedule an inspection with the DOB which doesn't work weekends and holidays...

When your heat and hot water have been off for 12 days and you spend $25,000 making repairs as quickly as possible and expediting things as quickly as possible with the DOB (which doesn't work weekends or holidays), National Grid stops working at 5pm.

@nationalgridNY HOW IS NOT HAVING HEAT OR HOT WATER IN 20 DEGREE WEATHER NOT CONSIDERED A GAS EMERGENCY? NG's website says they are available 24 hours. Nope! Not if you are a building filled with children, elderly people, and people with serious medical conditions.

@nationalgridNY @CMShahanaHanif The only reason we got a DOB inspection done on Tuesday after hours (instead of waiting DAYS) is because a neighbor made contact with their plumbing chief. But who do we have to make contact with @nationalgridNY to get them to restore gas TODAY now that we are approved?

@nationalgridNY @CMShahanaHanif When residential gas line repairs require DOB approval for heat and hot water to be restored to a building full of children in frigid Brooklyn temps, the NYC DOB should probably start working weekends and holidays. The system is broken.

@nationalgridNY 16 apts Xs the # of space heaters being used at night when it's 15 degrees below freezing Xs the TWO EXTRA DAYS we have to wait for someone @nationalgridNY to turn our gas back on = a significant increased chance of an accidental fire on top of a gas emergency.

@nationalgridNY Fire safety says space heaters should be turned off at night. Well, you try doing that when it's 20 degrees outside and see how cold your apartment gets in 6 hours. I have a toddler, so I have to make the decision every night how much I want him to freeze vs being fire safe.

@nationalgridNY It took 5 minutes for @nationalgridNY to shut off heat and hot water to a building filled with children under 5 years old, and we have to wait DAYS to get someone to come and spend 5 minutes turning the heat and hot water back on.
