@Warb58@Alexarmstrong A lot of public sector work moved to private sector, failed, cost the government more money and in some circumstances e.g. Probation services was brought back in-house. Outsourced asylum accommodation, spiralling costs but plenty in the private sector getting rich off it.
@MendyHowe12@RupertLowe10 Not really about having competent staff, I worked there in the past, plenty people there understood farming, you just weren’t listened to. Ministers call all the shots. So frustrating
@markpaysan@RupertLowe10 Problem is, when the top are at a ministerial level it’s never going to change. Would be interesting to see how many CS contracts line the pockets of MP/Ministers close comrades
@MrMBrown Growth is always going to be high considering the sector had 3 years of pay freezes from about 2011, and then up until recently pay rises were capped at 1%. The pay freezes were enough for me to get out, i knew at that point the race to the bottom had began… and here we are
@MattHarperUK@GBNEWS They won’t strike, they’ll walk. The pay is poor for skilled labour when compared to private sector. Especially IT. They already throw incredible amounts of money for contractors to fill the skills gap
@MajorDMalpas@andy9716 It’s not a myth it’s still the case. Especially in digital, you’d be amazed to find out how many people leave for better money. Then half of them are taken on as contractors on £700 day and more. Only pensions that will fall into IHT will probably be director level
@kelvmackenzie Worked both public and private and I’d pick private every day. Civil service was ridiculously strict but we provided a quality service to customers. My dept then got privatised and services dropped massively. Of the people at the top don’t give a shit then neither will us plebs
@Politocrit1@RupertLowe10 Worked there in the past contracting, the staff visit farms often. Just because ministers/MP’s are useless doesn’t mean the poor buggers delivering the schemes dreamt up at the top don’t care… they’re as frustrated as the rest of us
@NeilMcC68@KimseyPeter@RupertLowe10 I worked in the civil service a while back. Left for more money (same role), no dress code, less work pressure, and not having to implement ridiculous and undeliverable policies handed down by ministers… that’s where they need to start
@ParkLane251 @RyansCryptoNews @PolitlcsUK@FT This won’t change a thing, there’s not enough of them to meet demand. Government wants people to self serve, or go through some useless AI chatbot… going to get worse when they cut budgets too 🤦🏻
@Ed_Miliband I hope there will be some transparency with regard to who are being awarded the contracts for all the work/materials required… like you/we all cried out for during the governments response to Covid.
@davebrimson9@benonwine Civil service contact centres are massively under resourced, the employees in these centres have every minute of activity tracked by IT… they can’t cope with demand… but someone starts driving the ‘they’re lazy, it’s cos of WFH’ narrative. Madness
@davebrimson9@benonwine Always hear about them. Public v private sector pay rises 15 year ago… created a race to the bottom. Having worked with civil servants it’s basically just - ministerial decision > Civ Serv deliver what minister wants > Civ servs get the blame
