THE NORMAL MV IS FILMED LIKE A FILM, IT IS IN A FILM STRIP
HEAR ME OUT OKAY.
One visual motif keeps appearing throughout the ARIRANG era: film.
It's in the LAMRON poster. It's woven throughout the Rooted in Music concept photos. And in Normal, the entire music video is framed like an old reel of film—grainy textures, rounded borders, flickering imperfections, as if we're watching someone's home movies.
I don't think that's simply an aesthetic decision.
I think BTS are asking us to see this era as an archive.
Film is a peculiar medium because it always exists in the past. Every frame tells us, this happened. It preserves moments precisely because those moments can never happen again. As Roland Barthes writes in Camera Lucida, every photograph carries the quiet declaration, "that-has-been." It is evidence of life, but also of its passing.
That's exactly what Normal feels like.
The music video doesn't unfold like a present-tense story. Instead, it feels like we're revisiting fragments of a life already lived. A birthday party. Friends dancing. Wet clothes. Bruises. Laughter. Quiet hallways. Empty rooms. None of these moments are extraordinary on their own, yet the film reel insists they are worth preserving.
Because memory gives the ordinary its meaning.
The irony is that no one realizes they're living the "good old days" while they're inside them. We only recognize their beauty after they've become memories. By presenting Normal through the language of archival film, BTS transform an ordinary night into something almost sacred—not because anything monumental happened, but because it happened at all.
This becomes even more meaningful when placed beside Rooted in Music.
Music, by nature, is ephemeral. A note exists only as it's being played before disappearing into silence. Film does the opposite: it captures what would otherwise be lost. Together, the title Rooted in Music and the recurring film strip suggest that music itself becomes an archive. Songs preserve not only sound, but the people we were when we heard them. Every album becomes a time capsule. Every concert becomes a memory. Every lyric stores a version of ourselves.
Even LAMRON, "NORMAL" reversed, reinforces this idea. If Normal is about recognizing beauty in everyday life, then reversing the title already asks us to look at the ordinary from another perspective. The film strip completes that inversion. It asks us to stop experiencing life only as the present and instead see it through hindsight, where the mundane reveals itself as precious.
Perhaps that's what ARIRANG has been trying to say all along.
Previous BTS eras were concerned with surviving—surviving youth, temptation, identity, loss, and uncertainty. But ARIRANG asks a different question: what remains after survival?
The answer isn't found in stadiums, awards, or milestones.
It's found in the frames between them.
A film reel is made up of hundreds of still images. Individually, each frame seems insignificant. But when projected together, they become movement, narrative, and life itself. In the same way, a single ordinary day may seem forgettable, yet when stitched together with countless others, it becomes a lifetime.
The recurring film strip across this era may therefore be BTS' quiet reminder that legacy is not built only through extraordinary moments. It is built through the accumulation of ordinary ones. Every laugh, every conversation, every birthday, every rainy walk, every morning after the party becomes another frame in the archive.
ARIRANG isn't just documenting BTS. It's documenting the act of living itself.

They trained together, struggled together, and succeeded together. If you hate six members or V while claiming to love one, you're ignoring the biggest part of his journey.
