I love the story how Shah Rukh Khan bought Kolkata Knight Riders.

Lalit Modi was trying to convince SRK to buy a team, and at the same time, Nokia was desperate to get SRK as their celebrity endorser.

But he wasn’t biting either.

So Lalit Modi goes to Nokia and says that SRK won’t do their ad. But he's going to own a team in the IPL, and Nokia could put their logo on his jersey, which he would wear in front of all cameras broadcasting to the nation for a whole summer, for just $5 million. Nokia agreed immediately.

Now Lalit goes back to Shah Rukh. He tells him that he has found him the money for his team. The minimum deposit to get a team in the auction back then was $50 million, payable over 10 years, so the first bill would be only $5 million. And Nokia had just agreed to pay that.

Shah Rukh Khan gets his team for free, which is now worth more than $1 billion.
