Metal Slug’s tank-only prototype, side by side with the game we all know! 👀
I put together this first-stage comparison, matching the pace of the prototype presentation as closely as possible. It’s where curiosity meets the obvious: we’ve been playing the better version all along.
The shift from a lush, wet jungle to a much drier landscape is particularly striking. It reminds me of the day/night changes between Metal Slug 2 and Metal Slug X: familiar locations taking on a different atmosphere, with plenty of visual echoes between the two versions.
But the biggest difference is movement. Adding a playable soldier brought more speed, mobility and freedom, making the action far more dynamic. The mechanics were already remarkably developed; seeing them here really highlights how much fighting on foot added to the game.
For me, the released version is clearly better in every respect. That makes this comparison all the more interesting: we can finally see what changed and how much the game gained from it.
Now I’d love to see the other stages!
