We’re so proud of this team for all their hard work. Their efforts are creating more housing opportunities for individuals experiencing homelessness and getting more people educated on and involved in the permanent solution to homelessness!
In 2022, a $3k grant from VB Home Now helped us launch the Landlord Incentive Initiative, a program to engage new landlords in South Hampton Roads for our Housing First scattered-site program & help break down stigmas associated with renting to individuals using housing vouchers
Outreach efforts funded by the grant have included VSH brochures, Lunch and Learns, Thanksgiving baskets, and end of year gifts. Since the program began, the team has connected with over 18 new landlords!
We join them in expressing our deep disappointment in this ruling. And we affirm our continued commitment to working with our peers and partners on expanding the person-centered, evidence-based model of supportive housing in our shared mission to end homelessness in Virginia.
Earlier this month, over 150 people joined us to celebrate the opening of our latest supportive housing community. It’s exciting to see so many people supportive of and excited about affordable housing and ending homelessness, from neighbors to elected officials!
We know – & the evidence shows – that supportive housing is the solution to homelessness. Not criminalization.
Several of our peers have released important statements on this ruling:

This week, we celebrated the success of new supportive housing community Cool Lane Commons developed by Virginia Supportive Housing! Cool Lane Commons offers 86 single-occupancy apartments renovated from a vacant assisted living property in Richmond, VA.
Thank you @CBS6 for their coverage of our ribbon cutting at Cool Lane Commons yesterday!
We're so appreciative of them spreading the good word about the effectiveness of supportive housing & our work!

😎🏡Cool Lane Commons has done more than revive a vacant building & offer stable housing for residents in crisis. It’s also brought the region closer to ending homelessness. Henrico joined @vshousing & others to mark the opening of the apartment community.

We love celebrating all of the wonderful work that makes Hampton Roads a better place❤️
This year, VSH will be fundraising for Move-In Kits in our Hampton Roads buildings. Keep an eye out for more information ahead of Tuesday about how you can support VSH during this campaign!
Every spring, the Hampton Roads community comes together through the #GiveLocal757 campaign to raise money and awareness for causes and organizations making a difference in the region. This year, it's on Tuesday, April 23. VSH is proud to participate in this regional initiative!
As Cool Lane Commons moves closer to fully leased up, we're so excited to share more about how this project came together. Thanks @rvabizsense for this wonderful article!
We're so excited for the opportunity to thoughtfully and intentionally to shape a supportive housing model best suited to serving the needs of suburban and rural communities across VA, and for Farmville's partnership in bringing the model to fruition!

In early 2023, VSH entered into an agreement with @STEPSincVA - a community development nonprofit serving South Central VA - to develop a project addressing homelessness in Farmville. A year on, the project has taken on a more concrete shape, as covered by the Farmville Herald!
To that end, we’re delighted to be the recipient of a $250,000 grant over three years from Truist to “help VSH expand its geographic footprint to bring affordable housing and permanent supportive housing developments to more rural and suburban communities in Virginia.”
