We have to prepare students for life, not a test. We need testing that truly informs teaching & learning and responsible accountability that doesn't set schools up for failure. We must get state testing requirements in line with the federal minimum and let our teachers teach.
I am devastated by the news of the tragic shooting at Apalachee High School today. This is an unimaginable loss for Barrow and our entire educational community across the state. My full statement is below:
My heart breaks hearing about the devastating tragedy at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas today. To the students, teachers, and staff of Robb Elementary, to the parents and community of Uvalde — the hearts and prayers of Georgians are with you.
The success of Georgias students benefits all of us — we must continue to invest in public education, and support those who directly support students, for our state to thrive.
I was proud to join @GovKemp today as he signed Georgia’s FY23 state budget, which fully funds public education and completes the $5,000 pay raise promised to teachers.
The Capitol Art Exhibition is always one of the best evenings of the year -- it's a joy to see Georgia students' talent on display and talk with them about what they've created. #ArtsEdGA
I enjoyed attending the spring production of "Seussical Jr." at Seminole County Elementary on Friday. There is nothing better than seeing students engaged in the arts. #ArtsEdGA
"Reagan talked about America being the shining city on a hill and that's what we have to do...it's our role as educators." -@SuptWoods

Senator Johnny Isakson was a true statesman who served the people of Georgia with distinction. He will he missed by all who knew him, but he leaves behind a powerful legacy.
I had a great call with @educators1st recently — we discussed mentoring for new teachers and the need for a teacher evaluation system that supports teachers and helps them grow, instead of serving as a “gotcha.”
This is great news. Obscene materials have no place in our schools. Looking forward to working with the House to protect our students and empower our parents.
I’m working with House Education Chair Matt Dubnik and Rep. Chris Erwin to ensure obscene materials have no place in public schools. Let’s get it done this session! #gapol
Across our state, people are looking out for their fellow Georgians as we fight #COVID19. Thank you to all of the school officials, nutritionists, bus drivers, and volunteers packing and delivering meals to students while schools are closed. Keep choppin’!#gapol

I was honored to contribute to the Georgia Office of the Child Advocate’s annual book drive for youth in foster care. Access to reading material is so important as children build literacy skills, and I commend @georgia_oca for their work to support students.
Welcome to Benjamin Banneker High School (@banneker_HS)! State chiefs are here to learn more about some of @georgiadeptofed’s strategies for continuous improvement. #StatesLeading
The top education officials from states all over the U.S. are at @Banneker_HS this morning to learn about Georgia’s work to expand wraparound services, address academic & nonacademic barriers, and educate the whole child. @CCSSO@FultonCoSchools#GAWholeChild
I was pleased to present the @GaDOENutrition Friend of the Program Award to my friend, @GaDeptAg Commissioner Gary Black -- a true champion of farm-to-school initiatives in Georgia.
Enjoyed talking with @ncpublicschools Superintendent @MarkRJohnsonNC this morning! There's so much we can learn when we come together and collaborate with those around us.
