Eventually you learn that the real test of a relationship isn’t how well they understand your love languages but how well they contain your impulses at Costco
It seems becoming a therapist is front-loaded with difficulty.
Once you’re licensed you can…
- Reduce # of clients cause you’re paid more
- Niche down to who you feel you serve best
- Master your theory of choice since you have the basics down
Hang in there, it gets better.
Let’s normalize direct emotional communication:
- “I’m going to be spending some time away from my phone the next couple of weeks, I won’t be texting much”
- “I’m focused on my career right now, and I can’t really be in the middle of this”
- “I’m going to take some space tonight, I’m feeling a little off and need some me time”
- “I have a ton going on right now, I’m not in a headspace to help out”
- “Hearing this is triggering because my resources are low, do you have anyone else who can support you?”
- “I’m still working through how I feel. I need a more couple of days before we have this conversation.”
