Another day, another example of how Odias are abandoning their own language.

Today at Burger King Patia, the staff member taking orders kept speaking to me in Hindi, even though I continued speaking in Odia. I asked if she was a non-Odia. She looked confused, so I asked, "Which state are you from?" She replied, "Cuttack."

I then asked, "If you're from Odisha, why are you speaking Hindi?" Her answer: "Because I stayed outside the state."

I told her, "even I have stayed majority of my life outside the state, yet I've never forgotten my language".

She didn't respond. Instead, she walked away and started taking the next customer's order... in Hindi.

This inferiority complex among some Odias is worrying. If we ourselves don't use Odia in Odisha, who will?

Meanwhile people in Odisha are happy that their children are going to English Medium Schools to do their mastery over Hindi at the cost of not learning good English & Odia.

They are Ok if kids are not good at English & Odia.
