1 #BOUASM21 Reversing the last 50 years of habitat degradation may not be sufficient to restore declining bird populations in Europe. The reason for this is that some other - often neglected - factors may be interacting with habitat degradation.
5 #BOUASM21 Our study indicates that predation pressure needs to be considered within conservation policy, as it is impacting on important and endangered bird species.

@MayoCorncrake77 True, geese on the Inishkeas often fly over to the Mullet to forage. However, because food retention time in geese is so short (~2hrs), we were able to observe foraging flocks before collecting samples to ensure that the food sample came from the island, and not elsewhere.

Predator control - no one wants to talk about it, but when it’s targeted, humane and carried out alongside other conservation tools, it can make all the difference!
