For those unaware, Susan passed away peacefully on the evening of October 6th 2025. Our family held a small funeral in Abernant, Alabama near where she was buried at Red Hill Cemetery in Vance, AL.
Join us for her community celebration on Saturday December 6th. Details below!
I know my colleagues already dropped this line (h/t: @Brendan_Duke), but it bears repeating - there already exists a rural hospital fund and it is called:

@NYinOZ@bluhue123 If it were not for federal oversight by U.S.Department of Education, many states like Alabama, would never provide the services our (all learners) students need to receive in order to be productive citizens! Lots of evidence all over this country.
Official CBO analysis confirms the obvious: House Republican tax and budget bill isn't shared sacrifice.
It makes poor people poorer and rich people richer. It does this by cutting health care & nutrition to help finance tax cuts skewed to the wealthy.
✔️ $17.3M appropriation for child nutrition includes funding to expand school breakfast and sustain Summer EBT
✔️ RAISE Act to modernize school funding with a student need-based formula!
Good moves to make life easier for working families and people struggling to make ends meet
📢📢 At least *13.7 million people* would lose health coverage and become uninsured under the House Republican agenda #Medicaid and #ACA marketplace agenda.
Policymakers should protect people’s health care, not cut it.
From Arise's @robynhyden:
Today I joined @RepTerriSewell to say that terminating Medicaid coverage will terminate people who rely on this life-saving care. The prenatal care that saved my life and my son’s life could be at risk for thousands of Alabams moms and babies.
Medicaid spending ballooned from $1.2T in 2019 to $1.7T in 2024 - a 41.7% increase. The real problem? Bureaucratic bloat. HHS can't account for $100B+ in improper payments annually while Alabama's Medicaid rolls expanded 72% since 2019.
Instead of fearmongering about "cuts" to record-high budgets, let's discuss why 30% of Medicaid dollars never reach patients. Total federal spending jumped 51.7% in 5 years - this isn't about "saving healthcare" but exposing why $6.7T budgets still fail Americans.
The solution isn't more money, it's ending the administrative grift.
Today, workers across the country are standing up and demanding that the Trump administration makes NO cuts to education and life-saving research as part of a #KillTheCuts day of action.
