It is historic because, as this graph from ORR shows, above inflation fare rises were Labour government policy when it took direct control of the railways from 2005…

Well that was a shambles. A history lesson from Putin. Clearly not budged on his “root causes of the conflict.” Pressed the flattery button big time with “the war wouldn’t have happened if Trump had been President.” Snide re Europe. Trump usual blah re Russia hoax. Claims of progress without any indication of what it entails. The C word people were waiting for was Ceasefire. Not a peep. Putin will be laughing all the way back to the Kremlin
Was brilliant to spend the day in my old stomping ground seeing the rail investments recently delivered, under construction and in the pipeline. Team Rail working hard on more planned improvements for passengers and freight! @northernassist@TPExpressTrains@networkrail
Interesting to see former HS2 technical director Andrew McNaughton write in latest @RAIL magazine that ballasted track is “entirely correct” for northern section of HS2 - Phase 2a or the Staffordshire Connector as you prefer.
@BarrieShepherd4@GarethDennis Perhaps but it’s much more likely it was installed during Railtrack’s major regeneration of the station in the late 1990s.
Network Rail has closed Platforms 5 and 6 at Manchester Piccadilly to install netting to catch any further panes of glass that fall from the roof. The work also closes Platform 7 to electric traction and this has forced Avanti West Coast to cut its London service to two per hour.
I was too late for a better picture but noticed a couple of tunnel boring machine cutting heads waiting for installation at the east end of Old Oak Common HS2 station box. With luck, and appropriate funding from DfT, they will be heading for Euston.
