From genetically engineering disease-resistant grapes to cutting dosage to investing in reserve wine storage, the region of #Champagne is responding in big ways to #ClimateChange. My reporting for @VinePair:
Ozempic can be produced for less than $5 a month, a new study found, but Danish company Novo Nordisk charges Americans $968.52. https://t.co/flpFU7cgPD
"If we can't admit mistakes, then there can be no culture of reflection in our politics. And without a culture of reflection, it means we won't learn from our mistakes. Nor can we trust one another (or our leaders) to do so," @JohnRWoodJr writes. https://t.co/dtfewD1bt4
Every day I think about our lack of third spaces in the US and how urgent it is.
We need community areas that don't require people to buy things (especially huge sugary drinks that cause hormonal imbalances).
Most people in coffee shops, even Starbucks, are renting space.
“In his last decades Mr. Feeney did not own a home or a car, wore a $10 wristwatch, preferred buses to taxis and, until he was 75, flew coach. He and his second wife lived in a two-bedroom rented apartment in San Francisco.”
“Mr. Feeney reversed his extravagant lifestyle, quitting wealthy social groups, flying economy class, buying his clothing off the rack and giving up fancy restaurants. He sold his limousines and took subways or cabs. He also resolved to give his money away anonymously.”
The Uncrustables brand is somehow headed for $1B in annual sales and its timeline is wild:
▫️1995: Two dads in North Dakota invent frozen crustless PB&J sandwiches and sell them to the local school district
▫️1998: Acquired by Smuckers for $1m
▫️1999: A US patent is issued for a “sealed crustless sandwhich”
▫️2004: Sales hit ~$30m
▫️2008: US Patent Office rescinds the patent for a “sealed crustless sandwhich”
▫️2021: Smuckers invests $1.1B to build a plant in Alabama
▫️2022: Sales hit $500m+ and the brand launches meat, cheese and taco versions
▫️2023: Smuckers plans to put real marketing push behind brand to get to $1B (previously was word-of-mouth because it didn’t have factories to meet demand)
“We don’t need any more bars and restaurants; we don’t need more cafes. We need to work on saving the ones that are barely hanging on right now.” @sfstandard https://t.co/d50vazI86M
“Russia is a country of mafia rules. And Putin made an unforgivable mistake,” said a senior Moscow financier with ties to the Russian intelligence services. “He lost his reputation as the toughest man in town.” https://t.co/mDocXQMUDI
@TheatreofZen Universal and WB taking Greta and Chris out to a steak dinner on Sunday night going “so when are your next films done and how do we put them out on the same date again?”
What’s even more crazy is that this whole thing could never of happened if Nolan didn’t leave WB.
