You don't have to be a "statistician" on paper to be a good #statistics lecturer: you may have come from an #epidemiology, operations research, biochemistry or other background. Our senior statistician vacancy closes on Friday, shortlisting soon. https://t.co/0gM6Pek07R
@janetifimust My colleague brought in home-made cookies. She claims they aren't very good, but my scientific testing (3 cookies) disagrees.
I still support her conclusion that she must make more next week!
@Oohgpwales ask a librarian - the bodleian has a chat function and they've always been amazing at figuring this stuff out for me.
Usually it's a special incantation, but at least once we discovered that we'd lost access to a journal that we were paying for, and they got it fixed within 24hrs
@DeanEggitt I had a GP "urgent referral to neuro" for status migrainosus auto-rejected because I was already under neuro's care. Neuro secretary later told me there was no process for that sort of referral except ED. I hope she was lying.
🧵I’m reading lots of very well constructed threads by women trying to explain to men why crashing any conversation about male violence against women with “#NOTALLMEN” is unhelpful and exhausting…
Trouble is, the kind of guys who leap in with #notallmen (and I used to be one)…
Very poor practice here.
We have an amazing information specialist who supports our groups reviews. She’s an author on EVERY review where she:
1. Helps develop the search protocol
2. Conducts the search
3. Deduplicates + sends records
4. Comments on final manuscript
@dnunan79 Absolute minimum should be acknowledgment, with the option to be a co author if they're happy to comment on final manuscript.
Developing and running searches is a real skill, much underestimated.
@StolenStitches Many times, but I always put a lifeline in just in case they take them (never have). And if I have hold luggage I put a backup project in there.
@AngieBeatDown Yes but I had to switch pharmacies for it. My local one (was Lloyds) only delivered to over 65s. Made switch after refused delivery of emergency meds for asthma which meant I physically couldn't get to the pharmacy because "we only deliver for old people"
@DGlaucomflecken I'm sorry little glaucomfleck, but those are definitely pies.
Also welcome to Oxford. I highly recommend the Weston library and the Pitt Rivers Museum (both free)
@thosethatcan As an Oxford academic this is lovely to hear. If they do apply, remember that everybody loves the college they end up in. If they don't apply, or don't get in, remember that there are many equally excellent universities who will snap up an Oxbridge-capable student.
URGENT! Pls share. The last chance to register to vote in the General Election is 11.59pm tomorrow Tue 18 June. Potentially 8m aren't registered at their current address. Here's 4 key facts...
1) You can do it online here https://t.co/i4FhJoAXfK
2) It's good for your finances. Not being on electoral roll can make it more difficult to be accepted for credit products like bank accounts or mortgages.
3) You can opt out of the 'Open Register' (which allows your info to be sold on) which will stop you getting junk mail marketing )
4) You'll need ID when you do vote (not to register) if you don't have it, you can get it free until Wed 26 June https://t.co/9bfL3hw3CV
@novahmystery@RoseAlannis@MickeyDee43@Noah_Halpin@Fcuk_my_life There's next to no research on where trans people sit compared to "normal ranges" for men and women, taking into account the effects of hormones and surgery.
So I'd be much more interested in change from baseline than comparing to population norms.
