@traderderic @skumWgmi I used to live in that fantasy, too. I am the main caregiver to my 92yr old mother in law who lives with us. Her husband could not live here. His medical needs required him to live where he had 24/7 care. There is only so much you can do for your elderly parents.

Things I will not miss about teaching:

Spending more time on documentation than actual teaching.

Working graduation and seeing Johnny walk across the stage when you haven’t seen him in class in 7 months.

Going over rules and procedures knowing admin will never enforce any of them.

Writing referrals that result in a “restorative conference” as the consequence.

Professional development sessions on the latest fad that is supposed to fix education.

Being told to curve a 10 to a 70 because it’s a “special circumstance.”

Teaching in a room with a student wearing an ankle monitor.

Escorting 25 kids out of a classroom because one student is having a meltdown and destroying it.

Getting an email that says, “Yes, a gun was found, but don’t worry, it was unloaded.”

@educator4ever36 The actions taken in schools during the 2 yrs of Covid protocols has caused developmental delays in every single public school student. I left tchng in 2020, but I still talk to my former peers about it and they all say today’s students are developmentally at least 1 yr behind.

I just watched a video of someone making fun of "the girl who peaked in high school." In my 56yrs of experience, that often means they likely experienced trauma(s) that kept them from "peaking" in other stages in their life. It's sad on a different level than some may assume.
