On November 11, 2024, 6 Meetei civilians all Women and infants were reportedly kidnapped and held hostage by Kuki militants from a remote village in Jiribam. The recent CRPF operation, which led to the deaths of 11 Kuki militants, is believed to be in retaliation for these attacks and kidnappings. This information was allegedly shared in a WhatsApp group linked to Kuki militants. Innocent village volunteers remain held captive, yet the Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights who recently petitioned the President and NHRC over the death of a woman they referred to as a “fallen hero in defense of our ancestral land” on November 7, 2024 has not condemned this act of terrorism.

Some leaders of Kuki groups, despite claiming victimhood in the conflict, reportedly engage in hostage-taking of civilians, including women, children, and infants. I intend to bring this issue to the United Nations Human Rights Council and anticipate their defense. The truth must prevail, ending any attempts at deception.

We must closely monitor the response of central forces and agencies to see if rescue efforts are initiated or if the Assam Rifles will be pressed to negotiate with their Kuki allies for the safe release of these hostages. I will ensure that all relevant authorities are alerted to observe and address these apparent acts of terrorism, which have escalated since yesterday.

In these documents, their forefathers not only apologized but also recounted the entire course of events, revealing that they were merely supporting the revolt led by Chingakham Sanajaoba. This is why I refer to it as the “Chingakham Sanajaoba Revolt of 1917-1919” rather than a Kuki rebellion or Kuki war.
