@Watt_ya_want So many of them also say things like my parents treated me that way, now its my turn. Like, I love my kids, so I don't want to make things hard for them. I'm the grandmother now, and I still don't get that attitude.
It's crazy how the right spent years falsely accusing Joe Biden and his family of profiting off of the presidency and now they have actual evidence trump and his family are doing it and suddenly it's not a problem.
Just got off the phone with my college roommate.
His daughter was diagnosed with leukemia in January.
He has insurance. Good insurance. The kind you feel safe having.
7 months later:
Savings: wiped out. 401k: cashed early. Penalties and all. House: refinanced to cover the gaps insurance decided weren’t their problem.
He told me he’s not the same person anymore.
Said watching your child fight for her life while simultaneously fighting an insurance company over coverage codes does something to you that doesn’t go away.
They did everything right.
Two incomes. No debt. Responsible their whole lives.
One diagnosis undid all of it in 7 months.
And somewhere a health insurance CEO is getting a $30 million bonus this quarter.
I don’t know how people defend this system with a straight face.
I really don’t.
@Autistic_Lauren Strangers compliment me on my beautiful handwriting now. It used to make me angry, but I'm calmer about it now (I'm 55, it took awhile to get over it)
@Autistic_Lauren When I was in fifth grade in catholic school, Sr. Catherine Marie sent me back to 3rd grade for more handwriting lessons. When I didn't progress quickly enough for Sr. Adele, she made me write on the board in front of the third graders.
@BecauseIMatter@tanzderjunkies Have they never heard of a special interest? I feel like there are lots of autistic people who have the equivalent knowledge of a PhD about their favorite topics.
This is MMA fighter Sean McInnes. When Anne Marie Boyle asked him to leave her alone, he punched her in the face so hard that he broke her cheekbone and her eye socket, knocked her unconscious, and left her with a life-altering brain injury.
He was given less than two years behind bars.
It would be a real shame if this post was widely circulated and impacted his career in a negative way.
"Underage girls testing positive for pregnancy at detention centers."
Let me fix that for you.
"Children being raped at detention centers."
There you go.
@floatovertrees@seppinvi@bo_austin_ It sounds like you are trying to neutralize valid claims to difference. Autistic people do experience the world differently than neurotypical people do, and you minimizing those differences doesn't change that. It just erases other people's very real experiences.
