Today we’re publishing our Raising The Nation Play Commission interim report.
Thanks to the many people who have contributed evidence and given advice.
We set out the huge benefits of play, the barriers, and make policy recommendations.

Access to play has reduced greatly over recent years and there are very real concerns over the dominance of social media in children's lives. Including a Play Strategy in this Bill would be a cost-effective way to reflect the wants and needs of children in the community. 3/3
@LabourParty Lots more to comment on (including the role of poverty and disadvantage, and health and physical activity). But I will finish by noting that 1 of the 6 recs is "let children play." 6/n Good work @childrensociety
The latest @childrenssociety #goodchildhood report makes depressing reading. It is worth a close look, as it is a detailed, robust and revealing dataset on UK children, with international comparisons & trend data going back to 2010. 1/n https://t.co/D1G1ZE0fQm
Very sad news. Tapping into alternative education funding is a great idea as is working together as a consortium. Really hope you are successful with your endeavours to save Leicesters adventure playgrounds. Could DCMS fund a pilot consortium project ? https://t.co/WVj8HhR9fx
Access to play allows children and their families to have a better experience of healthcare. It can reduce stress, turn a scary environment into an adventure, and help increase a child's autonomy over their treatment. ⭐

Not long to go! It's just 1️⃣ week to #Playday2024!
This Playday, we are calling on everyone – families, playworkers & all those who work with children across the UK, to join together to foster a culture of supporting play.
Play is every child’s right – on Playday & every day.
"...allowing kids to play out in the open has helped residents reclaim something they didn’t know they were missing: the ability to connect with the people living closest to them." Great article featuring our friends @playingout

What would be best - Play Sufficiency legislation - (a policy ask which doesn’t need funding ???) - Play England or a new National Play Strategy - Children’s Alliance ?
There's only 2 weeks left until #Playday2024 takes place!

👏'Figuring out how to make towns & cities better is hard, but bringing young people into that thinking helps build a strong, long-term vision & focus on a collective response.' @timrgill
