The footage from tonight's parade is shocking and appalling. My thoughts are with all those affected.

A 53-year-old white British male from the Liverpool area has now been arrested.

My thanks go to @merseypolice & our emergency service partners who have responded so swiftly.

Updates will be provided as soon as possible. In the meantime, I'd urge people to please not speculate any further.

We’d like to share a message with you. Following the tragic events that deeply affected us all over the summer, and the sentencing last week, we feel now is the right time to say: thank you to the amazing people of Southport, Merseyside and beyond.

We will continue to be there for you as we move forward as a community. We are working hard to keep the area we so proudly serve a safe place to be.
Despite us all being rocked by the events that took place last summer, we remain strong, united and we stand together.
