Today marks one month since the body of a woman was discovered in Stanley Park.
As enquiries continue, Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson is making a renewed appeal for information and sharing new details that could help identify the woman.
At around 5.25pm on Friday 28 August, officers were called after a member of the public discovered a black bin bag in bushes within the park's walled garden. Officers attended and sadly found the body of the woman. It is believed she had been there for several weeks, possibly since early July.
The woman was white, approximately 5ft 2in tall and of slight build and was found wearing a pink Nike T-shirt.
Further enquiries have revealed:
▪ The woman had no teeth, meaning dental records have not been available to assist with identification.
▪ She suffered from osteoporosis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and arthritis in her hands.
▪ She was malnourished, although it has not been possible to determine whether this was linked to her age or neglect.
▪ We have also expanded our enquiries to investigate reports of women aged between 60 and 80.
We hope that details about the woman's medical conditions may help someone recognise her and come forward.
Do you know someone matching this description who has not been seen for several weeks? This could be a family member, friend, neighbour or someone from your local community.
Our enquiries remain ongoing and to date the occupants of nearly 900 properties have been spoken to and 126 women have been eliminated from our enquiries after concerns were raised for people matching the description of the woman.

#ProjectServator officers from the Airport Policing team deployed at @LPL_Airport today.
If you see deployments when you are passing through the airport, don't worry – officers are there to keep you safe. We work closely with the airport, and deployments can happen anywhere in and around the site, at any time. The aim is to disrupt a variety of criminality, including terrorism, while providing a reassuring presence for the public.
These patrols consist of officers in uniform and plain clothes who are specially trained to spot tell-tale signs 👀 that someone may be gathering information to help them plan or prepare to commit a crime.
During deployments, officers will also encourage the public and staff at the airport to be vigilant and report suspicious activity.
Remember, if you see something that doesn't feel right, report it to staff, security or a police officer, or call 101.
In an emergency, always call 999.

JAILED | Three people have been sentenced for perverting the course of justice following a stabbing in St Helens nearly five years ago.
On Tuesday 23 November 2021 we received reports that a man in his 30s had been attacked by four men at a property on Sunners Green Close in Parr.
Following the stabbing an investigation was launched during which several individuals were identified as suspects.
As enquiries progressed, we received multiple reports of witness intimidation and threatening telephone calls from the victim, Walid Gbeira and individuals connected to him.
As a result of those reports and supporting statements, a man was charged with witness intimidation and remanded in custody, spending 63 days in prison.
However, proceedings were subsequently discontinued when telecommunications analysis demonstrated significant inconsistencies in the allegations and indicated that the reports were false.
These findings led investigators to suspect that false reports had been submitted in an attempt to influence the direction of the investigation, resulting in a separate investigation into conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
In August 2022, search warrants were executed at the addresses of Walid Gbeira, and also Nicole McMenamy, whose home the stabbing was reported to have taken place in.
Forensic examination of mobile phones uncovered extensive digital evidence, including call records, messages, videos and covert recordings.
Investigators identified evidence of a coordinated effort to mislead police, fabricate allegations, falsely implicate people in criminal offences, and interfere with the course of justice.
As a result of the lengthy and complex investigation, Walid Gbeira, Nicole McMenamy and McMenamy’s friend Caitlyn Waring were charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
Walid Gbeira, 39, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty on the first day of trial in June 2026. On Friday 23 October he was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court to three years in prison.
Nicole McMenamy and Caitlyn Waring pleaded guilty before trial.
McMenamy, 27, of Baltimore Drive in St Helens, was sentenced to two years and five months in prison.
Caitlyn Louise Waring, 26, of Linear View, Newton-le-Willows, was sentenced to 15 months in prison suspended for two years.
No further action was taken in respect of the stabbing investigation as the prosecution determined there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction due to significant concerns regarding the reliability and credibility of the key witnesses, Walid Gbeira and Nicole McMenamy, arising from evidence uncovered during the investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Lisa McNaughton said: "Cleary Gbeira and McMenamy thought they would be able to spin a web of lies in an attempt to pervert the course of the investigation and implicate who they wanted.
"It is only thanks to the hard work and determination of the investigation team that we were able to unpick their lies and successfully convict them and put them behind bars."
“Sullivan stripped away the strong, confident person I used to be" 💔
⚖️ Bernard Sullivan has been sentenced to 19 years in prison after being found guilty of committing sexual offences against a woman.
Following a trial last month, Sullivan, 51 years, was found guilty of two counts of assault by penetration, strangulation and three counts of rape at Liverpool Crown Court.
Yesterday (Monday 27 October), Sullivan, no fixed address but from Waterloo, was sentenced to 19 years in prison. He was also put on the Sexual Offenders Register for life and a restraining order is in place to not contact the victim indefinitely.
In a Victim Impact Statement, the survivor said 🗣️ “Sullivan stripped away the strong, confident person I used to be. I struggled to go out alone suffered nightmares. I was constantly nervous and anxious and frightened in my own community.
“The effects of that continue to impact me, and I am still healing.
“Despite everything, I have worked hard to rebuild my life. His actions changed my life, affected my mental health, damaged my confidence, and altered how I live day-to-day. I believe women will be safer with him no longer in the community.”
Throughout the investigation Sullivan showed no remorse for the abuse he carried out and denied the offences put to him. Thankfully the jury saw though his lies and found him guilty.
Anyone that has been a victim of a sexual offence, is concerned for the safety of someone they know or suspects someone to be engaging in this criminal activity, should come forward and speak to us.
We have a team of dedicated staff who will expertly and compassionately deal with your reports, and we will do everything we can to bring offenders to justice 🤝
Anyone with information or who wants to report a sexual offence is asked to call 101 where you will be spoken to by specially trained officers. In an emergency, always call 999.
If you have been a victim of sexual assault or rape, you can access specialist support services, which are free of charge and available to anyone. You do not need a referral or to have reported an incident to Merseyside Police before you access these specialist support services.
These services can support you in a variety of ways, including offering a confidential discussion if you are thinking of making a police report, but are unsure what that involves and would like to discuss it. If you do decide to report to Merseyside Police, you will receive support throughout the investigation and court processes.
You can choose to make an anonymous report through the Sexual Assault Referral Centre called Safe Place, or the Independent Sexual Violence Advisor service, rather than coming directly to Merseyside Police.
Support is also available in Liverpool, Sefton and Wirral, from Rape and Sexual Abuse Support (RASA) Merseyside who are available on 0151 558 1801 and, in St Helens and Knowsley, by the Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (RASASC) Cheshire and Merseyside who can be contacted on 01925 221 546 or 0330 363 0063.

This post did not announce the deployments ahead of time. The post states "...you may have seen them in recent days at @Liverpool_ONE, @SGHLpool and at other locations including Southport.", so to be clear: "in recent days". The post summarised recent Project Servator activity that had already occurred.
On occasion, we do post about deployments that have been planned in the run-up to a specific event, and we will mention the event, but the post will always occur after the deployments have happened.
There is no loss of unpredictability.
Some of our patrols are #ProjectServator deployments – you may have seen them in recent days at @Liverpool_ONE, @SGHLpool and at other locations including Southport.
The deployments are different from normal police operations, and if you see one, don't worry – it's all about keeping you safe. Although the deployments are highly visible, they do consist of plain clothes officers. All the officers are specially trained, and they will keep an eye out for tell-tale signs that someone may have criminal intent such as gathering information to help them plan or prepare to commit a crime.
During deployments, the officers will also speak with members of the public and security staff to encourage the reporting of suspicious activity. The aim is to build a network of vigilance, disrupt criminality, including terrorism, and provide a reassuring presence to the public.
Everyone can play a part in keeping our communities safe – if you see something that doesn't feel right, report it to staff, security or a police officer, or call 101.
