Hi everyone, I think many of you have seen posts about Project Y being listed in KOFIC’s submission notice for the 2027 Academy Awards/Oscars.

Just to clarify coz I saw some posts that are a bit misleading.

What KOFIC posted is only the submission receipt result for Korea’s entry to the 2027/99th Academy Awards International Feature Film category.

The application period was from 1-19 June 2026 and KOFIC announced that they received 6 films in total.

So for now, these 6 films are not “selected” yet and there was no quality screening result announced. It is just the list of films submitted/received by KOFIC during the application period.

And the number beside each film is not ranking. It is only based on submission order. Only one film will be selected later as Korea’s official submission to the Oscars.

Also, based on KOFIC/Academy rules, the film must be released between 1 Oct 2025 and 30 Sept 2026, and it must be shown for at least 7 consecutive days in a commercial cinema.

If the final selected film cannot satisfy the submission conditions by 30 Sept 2026, KOFIC can cancel the selection and choose the next-ranked film instead.

And in case anyone is wondering why Project Y team submitted it despite the mixed feedback in Korea, public acceptance is not the only main point.

KOFIC also looks at things like the overall quality/completion of the film, ability/potential for North American distribution and overseas recognition of the director and the submitted film.

So for Project Y, I think the stronger point is probably its international positioning. The film was already screened/selected at several international festivals like TIFF, BIFF, HIFF, LEAFF and Palm Springs, and it also won Best Film at LEAFF.

So yup, just to highlight that Korean viewers’ feedback alone won’t decide this. It still depends on KOFIC’s review and final selection later.

Bukan mau adu nasib. Tapi gaji bapakku satpam cuma 1.8 juta buat 6 orang. Ortu, aku, adik, 2 nenek. UKT aku 1 juta, UKT adik 2,4 juta. Ibu kerja serabutan. KIPK gak dapet. @SuraaaD1979 @baseconvo ya itu dia masalahnya. ngajuin keringanan kalo ortunya keliatan pns/bumn kan sering ditolak. beasiswa gak selalu ada. kerja part time juga blm jadi budaya disini. well,kerja fulltime aja banyak yg underpaid😂daripada menghakimi mereka,yg harus dihujat adalah pemerintah
