Alternative for Germany, a far-right party that has often vilified immigrants, sees segments of the post Soviet diaspora as a potential electoral boon.
By me for @POLITICOEurope: https://t.co/SU0KLIl7OG
The far-right Alternative for Germany party also argued a couple years ago that the missiles made Germany “a target." Polls showed half of Germans feared the missiles would escalate conflict with Russia: https://t.co/FlRVmT5lhy
BREAKING: The House adopted a resolution Wednesday directing President Donald Trump to seek congressional authorization before continuing military operations in Iran as more Republicans came out in opposition to the conflict. (from @svetashko) https://t.co/F0CEvMjAcZ
The U.S. war against Iran reached a key 60-day deadline for congressional approval that the Trump administration said it will not comply with because the conflict remains in a ceasefire.
The president is required to notify Congress within 48 hours of introducing U.S. forces into hostilities and pull them out 60 days later unless lawmakers authorize the action.

HASC sent a bipartisan request asking how the Pentagon will ensure the independence of Stars and Stripes. Minority staff sent another request after noticing the removal of a federal regulation governing the paper.
“We have yet to receive any answers."

On the same day that Parnell posted on X, the Pentagon summarily and illegally shut down the complex review process for the Code of Federal Regulations provision governing Stars and Stripes.
The action also ignores Congress’ intent for Stripes to remain editorially independent.
FROM OUR OMBUDSMAN: Stars and Stripes, the legendary newspaper for the U.S. military community, is in peril of losing its editorial independence and becoming nothing more than a public relations arm of the Pentagon.
Your help is urgently needed to keep Stars and Stripes operating as an independent news source that adheres to journalistic principles and ethics.
Your help is needed for Stripes to continue providing fair, accurate and unbiased news for those who are serving our country and our veterans. They deserve nothing less than the unfiltered truth.
Here is what is happening, why and what you can do about it:

This is not correct. Stripes is filled with work from dedicated reporters writing original content with service members and veterans top of mind. Yes, like most papers we use wire service to fill the gaps.
BREAKING | The Pentagon has suggested it would take over editorial content decision making for Stars and Stripes in a statement from the Defense Department’s top spokesman.

Pavel Talankin was a school events coordinator and videographer. When Russia overhauled the curriculum to make students into patriotic soldiers, he kept his camera rolling. The footage became an Oscar-nominated film. My story for @nytimes

The Senate passed a $901 billion defense policy bill authorizing a 3.8% pay raise for troops while forcing more transparency from the Pentagon and putting limits on efforts to pull the U.S. military from Europe and South Korea.

This morning, I spoke with political prisoners released from Belarus. I greatly value their kind words about Ukraine and Ukrainians, as well as their firm and principled stance on Russian aggression. This is important. Ukraine will continue to support everyone who helps us defend our independence and protect people’s lives.
