शाह का लाहौर से सरहिंद की ओर मार्च

​अगली सुबह, शाह और सेना ने लाहौर छोड़ दिया और सिखों का पीछा करते हुए दोआबा की ओर बढ़ गए, जो कि कुत्तों (Dogs)* का निवास स्थान था। लाहौर से प्रस्थान करते समय शाह ने आदेश दिया कि यह विरोधियों (दुश्मनों) का देश था, और इसलिए, इस्लामवादियों (मुसलमानों) के लिए इसे लूटना वैध (Lawful) था, और वे इसे लूटने के लिए स्वतंत्र थे। जब लश्कर (सेना) को शाही इच्छा का पता चला, तो उन्होंने हर गांव और शहर को तहस-नहस कर दिया। यही उनके दिलों की इच्छा थी और वे इसके लिए रात-दिन अल्ला से प्रार्थना कर रहे थे। सेना जिस भी दिशा में आगे बढ़ी, वहां दिन-दिहाड़े लोगों का नरसंहार किया गया। कुत्तों और गैर-कुत्तों के बीच कोई अंतर नहीं किया गया। यदि एक राजा किसी बगीचे से एक सेब खाता है, तो उसकी सेना उस पूरे बगीचे को नष्ट कर देती है। लोग भाग गए और जहाँ कहीं भी वे छिप सकते थे, खुद को छिपा लिया। वहाँ अनगिनत गाएँ, गधे, भेड़ें और बकरियाँ थीं, और गन्ने के खेत तथा मिश्री (Sugar-candy) और तिल के ढेर थे। जिहादियो के हाथों में जो अनगिनत चीजें लगीं, उन्हें कोई याद नहीं रख सकता। चाहे इंसान हों या जानवर, वे मिश्री और गन्ने के अलावा किसी और चीज़ पर निर्भर नहीं रहे। सभी के पेट, बड़े और छोटे, गुलामों और दासियों (Slaves and Slave-girls) के, इन चार चीजों से भर गए थे—गायों का मांस, गन्ना, मिश्री और तिल। उस शाह की हजारों प्रशंसाएँ जो अपनी सेना को पूरा देश प्रदान कर देता है। उपहार ऐसा होना चाहिए जिससे किसी के पास नाप या पैमाने की आवश्यकता न बचे। इस प्रकार पूरी सेना लूटपाट करती रही और इस तरह रास्ते में चौदह या पंद्रह दिन बिताने के बाद, वे बटाला के क्षेत्रों में आ गए।"
