E 4th Street, gingerbread style!🍪🏙️ Check out this incredible scale model of downtown Cleveland’s iconic E 4th Street, made entirely out of gingerbread!
The model was constructed by Sarah Wagner @swags95, downtown resident, designer, volunteer, & champion.
Absolutely stunning!
For Sarah Wagner, baking is just a hobby. But when she draws inspiration from the historical Cleveland architecture she loves, she’s “using both sides of my brain,” she told FOX 8 News. She how she built a local landmark from gingerbread: https://t.co/82tGUCwUbI
Thanks so much for all the kind words, everyone!! So glad to spread the love for the gems our city has to offer.
Here’s proof that I did make all 4 sides haha. Happy New Year, CLE!
Thank you for wanting to display it!! Couldn’t have imagined this happening when I decided to make it, but I’m so glad people will be able to enjoy it!
@braddrinks@TowerLightsCLE The baked cookie in this recipe also gets pretty hard so you can grate down the edges as needed to get them to line up! Def took some trial and error! https://t.co/OSZUXtbyGG
@braddrinks@TowerLightsCLE I left a ~2cm border around each piece that I cut out, then chilled again, then baked and trimmed off that border right after pulling out of the oven before the cookie has a chance to harden. I think the chilling + border helps keep the dough from losing shape/spreading.
@braddrinks@TowerLightsCLE I designed the template in Adobe Illustrator, then printed and cut that out of paper and laid it on top of chilled dough, using a pin to punch through the paper to mark window placement. Hogwarts has a LOT of detail and round parts though, that's ambitious even for me 😅
@HarkenPatty Thank you!! Too long haha 😅 Between designing the template, making and cutting out the dough, doing some tests, and actual assembly, I think it took between 30-40 hours...I'm not a professional so speed isn't my strong suit!
