I have an issue with Minnie Dlamini's statement released this week....
------------------
Let me start here:
- I fully support her standing up for herself.
- I fully support her stating that an apology is not enough, & is arguably insincere, because MacG's vile insinuations are now causing a public raucous & may cause reputational damage to their platform & business associates.
- I fully support her in wanting to engage further legal recourse as she is aggrieved.
- I too believe that MacG was wrong & should have apologized, way before this became such a big deal. Perhaps monetary damages would also suffice, if deemed fair legally.
-----------------
What I found issue with is this:
- Minnie references that she's fighting for more than herself, but for women.
- She speaks about systemic misogyny, and references Podcast & Chill as one such platform.
- She states that she's a woman, mother & a sister.
- She closes by saying that she'll pursue this case for all women who are aggrieved by misogyny in the entertainment & media industry.
-----------------
Though she's well within her rights to say these things:
- Did she not consider that Itumeleng Khune is also a man, father, husband & son, when she repeatedly used him as entertainment fodder, for snide jokes?
- Did she not consider the feelings of her ex-husband, Mr Jones, & his loved ones when she tweeted about Thierry Henry coming to SA & how she was sad that her crush was coming to SA, right after she got married?
- Does she acknowledge that the entertainment & media space is also toxic to men... especially where women drag men, make fun of their personal lives, private parts, financial status, & create podcasts bashing men?
- Does she acknowledge that Podcast & Chill doesn't only degrade women at times, but men too? They attack male celebrities arguably more than female celebrities. Maphorisa & Cassper Nyovest come to mind, as examples.
------------------
As I said, she's well within her rights to defend herself & other women out there... but she must not be hypocritical in the toxicity of media platforms, being involved in gender squabbles herself, & she must not hide behind her femininity, whereas she doesn't consider this when adding toxicity to men's lives herself.
Gender wars - especially among black ppl - are engineered. And we all need to be careful as to how we contribute to hurting ppl from the opposite sex & how our platforms make things worse. This includes me!
We must not be selective in protecting one gender over the other because both sides, at different times, are wrong.
Most young men enjoy vile content from MacG, Andrew Tate, Shadaya Knight, Nota, Chris Excel, Kevin Samuels & others because they feel that - for too long - women have gotten away with being verbally, financially & emotionally abusive without any clapbacks. That men must just suck it up & take it without dishing back. It's not by accident that male suicide is 4 to 1 when compared to women.
I think Minnie should just focus on getting justice for herself, regarding the arguable defamatory comments, & not make this a general men vs. women thing; or pretend that she is innocent herself.
We can all fix these things if we're honest about the environment & our own flaws in making society a toxic space.

I bet my life savings Snoop Dogg will be a Billionaire by 2030.
Not because he sold 50 Million albums, is in 100 TV commercials, or runs a weed empire.
But because he cracked a Billion-Dollar market every other rapper ignored (it's so simple, it's genius):
Youth and gender must go beyond conversation to action. We’re proud to announce Ms. Lesego Chombo as our new Minister of Youth and Gender.
