Loved the PBL Online Course with Core 21 Education. Will be continuing to grow with the Core 21 Model and Rigor & Relevancy Framework to design units. See my work here: https://t.co/XpkVvBh9Uc #pbl#core21education
The online QFT workshop from @RightQuestion inspired integration for next school year and further verified why practicing this year to year is such an important skill to master for any type of teacher. Thank you @AndrewRQI !
Students designed an experiment/innovation that promotes sustainability. Outcomes: creation of bioplastics, natural air purifiers, effect of air pollution on germination, water desalination, water filtration using moringa seeds. #steam@americanschool
Attended a workshop led by our fabulous computer science teacher on the use of #microbits
Very impressed with the seamless integrations between coding and data collection. Can't wait to put to use! #letscode#computerscience#stem@americanschool
@swansonteach 11th Grade Biology students learned about current innovations in genetics by developing a gene therapy technique to treat a hereditary disorder. They presented their proposed technique to faculty members coming in to judge. #Goeagles#biology#ViralGeneTherapy
Quadrat Sampling of 2 'dive sites' in the classroom. Practicing a Chi-Squared Test using a local connection to invasive lionfish in our nearby Bay Islands. #ibbiology#studentcentered#crosscurricular
Practicing the skill of matching the notes style to the nature of content. Choices: cornell, table, flow chart, concept map, or annotating sketches. Digital or by hand. They reflect after on their choice. #ganag#notetakingtechniques#studentcentered@ast
@JonDarkow Our results went up to about 34 methane, 30 CO2, and 28 air (celsius). I would say subtle; we were hoping for more. But it still helped students understand and see the difference.
@JonDarkow That's awesome, I'm going to look into the same thing! We're using the gas taps for methane. It's been slightly difficult to control these variables however. I like the addition of a pressure probe a lot. Thanks for the great ideas!
@RightQuestion Thanks for your comment! We finished a unit by Johns Hopkins Farm to Fork curriculum, so they drew a mind map of big ideas that stood out. This became their QFocus; then they drafted a methodology to answer it, which required some coaching and feedback!
Currently in class different groups are: conducting an experiment, giving a survey around school, on the phone interviewing an expert, watching a documentary. This is how they each took action in answering their self-made question. #pbl#farmtofork#foodsystem#qft
Students create their own meaning by building organic polymers and discussing the monomers and bonds involved. Msg me for this activity for 2.1! #ibbiology#molecularbiology#studentcentered
