Just the first lot of reading material I had to go through before my writing journey even begun for my 5th book based on Indian Air Force.

The first step of writing a book starts with reading. Especially the military genre demands extensive read and research. 10 years of my long writing career has also taught me while verification is important , the cross verification remains essential to ensure authenticity of the facts; data, date, place & relevance.

Tips to budding military authors: always match your interviews with documents, war dairies,after action reports & books. And travel go out meet the people on ground as many as possible.

Then may be .. you will come up with a book that will keep the reader hooked.

It was heartening to find Corporal Jyoti Prakash Nirala’s bust at the newly erected Yoddha Sthal near the Flight Cadets’ Mess at the Air Force Academy Dundigal. It is thoughtful of the academy, which forges Air Force pilots, to have included a Garud Special Forces warrior, ensuring his legacy also inspires future air warriors. To see him in eternal company with legends like PVC Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, Baba Mehar Singh & other air warriors was a fulfilling moment, as I had also worked hard to bring alive & immortalise his legacy in the pages of my Air Force book Wings of Valour.

Was deeply honoured to witness Vayu Yoddha Sthal ‘The Eternal Warriors Park’ at the Flight Cadets Mess premises, established to commemorate the valour of our Air Warriors. It reminded me of the National War Memorial & left me with same overwhelming emotions.

Inaugurated on 26 January 2026, this solemn tribute is the vision of the current Commandant, Air Marshal Praveen Keshav Vohra, who served as the SASO, Western Air Command, during Operation Sindoor.
