There’s a worrying trend at the United Nations: more and more civil society organizations are being blocked from participating in our meetings and processes. Last week, Sweden joined a group of countries in highlighting this development. See our statement here: https://t.co/xMYxt4BreE
”The shadow fleet is funding drones and missiles hitting Ukraine. If we’re serious about bringing the war to an end, acting against the shadow fleet is not optional.” - @MariaStenergard on the importance of maintaining pressure on Russia through further sanctions and other measures.
This is outlined in a letter to @eu_eeas, @EU_Commission and @CY2026EU co-signed with @CarlOskar.
It was a pleasure to welcome Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama @javierachapma to Stockholm. I emphasised the great bilateral relations between our countries. Panama’s commitment to democracy, the rule of law and free trade is much appreciated. We also discussed potential Swedish investments in Panama to further the green and digital transitions for the benefit of both nations.
Next week, the winner of the Government’s Cultural and Creative Industries Export Prize for achievements in 2025 will be announced!⭐
Previous winners come from industries ranging from gaming to design and fashion, which demonstrates the breadth and innovation that characterise Sweden’s cultural and creative industries.
On 16 June, Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade @benjamindousa will announce this year’s winner at a ceremony at Nationalmuseum. This year’s Rising Star Award will also be presented.
Keep an eye out in our channels!
Pleasure to meet again with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, H.E. @MBA_Althani in Doha today. I conveyed Sweden’s solidarity with Qatar following Iran’s attacks and praised their efforts towards a diplomatic solution. We agreed on the timely opportunity to further strengthen our excellent partnership.
Thanks @KristenMichalPM for hosting the Nordic Baltic Prime Ministers in Tallinn to explore deeper cooperation on AI and Baltic Sea region security, together with @ZelenskyyUa and @EmmanuelMacron.
Last year, NB8 contributed a third of total European military support to Ukraine, and our support is unwavering.
Valuable meeting with President @ZelenskyyUa in Tallinn today. We continued our discussions on Gripen fighter jets and developments on the frontline.
Ukraine has the momentum on the battlefield - Sweden will continue to support.
Sweden congratulates Civil Contract on their success in Armenia's parliamentary elections. I look forward to deepening Sweden's and the EU's cooperation with Armenia, as well as continuing our support for the regional peace process.
Democracy in our neighbourhood is one of Sweden’s top foreign and security policy priorities. The Government is presenting a support package focused on democratic development and stronger civil society in Eastern Europe. The support is going to organisations such as Varieties of Democracy and Minority Rights Group Europe, two organisations that Sweden has long-standing cooperation with.
Sweden is unwavering in its support of Eastern European countries’ fight for their continued democratic development, their paths to the EU and their independence from Russian influence.
Two weeks ago, we met in Helsingborg for the NATO Foreign Ministers' Meeting during one of @_OrbanAnita's first outgoing visits. Today’s meeting in Budapest is one of her first incoming bilateral visits. Sweden is pleased to have Hungary back as an active team player and constructive partner both in the EU and in NATO. I look forward to deepening our dialogue. Köszönöm a szívélyes fogadtatást! 🇸🇪🇭🇺
Today, the judgement has been issued in the case concerning the murders of Zaida Catalán from Sweden, Michael Sharp from the US and Betu Shintela from the DRC while working as UN experts and local interpreter in the DRC in 2017. It is hard to find words to describe these crimes, against people who only wanted to do good. Almost 10 years later, this is an important step for truth and justice for the victims and their families. Sweden has continuously raised with the Congolese authorities the importance of due process, where the right to a fair trial is respected and all available information and evidence is considered. Sweden strongly opposes the death penalty in all circumstances, without exception.
I remain deeply concerned about the situation in Lebanon. Israel must end its military advances and withdraw from Lebanese territory. The widespread destruction of civilian homes and infrastructure and forced displacement must stop. Hezbollah’s attacks against northern Israel must cease. A strong and stable Lebanon is key for a disarmed Hezbollah, and long-term security for Israel. That said, I welcome the continued talks between Israel and Lebanon and the recent agreement to implement a ceasefire and strongly urge all actors to comply and adhere to a diplomatic path. Today, Sweden joined 11 other countries in issuing the below statement on developments in Lebanon.

Sweden condemns Iran’s attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain targeting civilian infrastructure. These actions violate international law and risk further destabilising the region. https://t.co/yF5D3Zm2ge
