Discrimination against Ukraine continues.

This Paralympics was doomed even before it began: Russian and Belarusian athletes were allowed to compete under their national flags and symbols without any real check for “neutrality.” This opened the door for former Russian military personnel. The IPC chairman made manipulative statements - this has already been discussed in the previous video.
But even that wasn’t enough for an organization that clearly sympathizes with dictatorships.
Ukrainian para-biathlete Oleksandra Kononova stepped onto the podium wearing “Stop War” earrings. The inscription fully aligns with the peacekeeping essence of the Olympic and Paralympic movement (recall the “Olympic truce” - literally “stop war”). Nevertheless, the IPC issued her an official reprimand and warning.
Another absurdity: the family of a Ukrainian athlete was prohibited from bringing Ukrainian flags into the stadium, even though Russian flags were waving freely in the stands.
German athletes, during the award ceremony, deliberately turned away, did not remove their hats during the Russian anthem, kept their distance from Russians in photos, and refused a joint selfie. For this, the IPC launched an investigation against them.
At the same time, Russian skier Golubkov publicly dedicated his victory to Putin and Russia - and there was zero reaction from IPC.
In contrast, our team received a reprimand for a Ukrainian flag on the accommodation building.
Systemic pressure on Ukrainians + obvious support for the aggressor - this is not equality. This is shameful support for a terrorist state and the bullying of war victims.
That is exactly why the Ukrainian team boycotted the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2026 Paralympics. The National Paralympic Committee of Ukraine has already called these Games the worst in history.
In recent years at the Olympics and Paralympics, there is a growing impression that this could mark the beginning of the end for the current IOC and IPC. In the near future, we may witness the collapse of these organizations and the emergence of new ones that will truly respect Olympic values.

Russians marched with their national genocidal flag at the Paralympics opening ceremony for the first time since 2014.
I am at a loss for words. It was already appalling that russian athletes were allowed to participate in the 2026 Winter Olympics. And now they can do so while proudly waving their genocidal rag.
While Ukrainian athletes are being killed by russians, russian athletes are being rewarded with participation in the Olympics.
Don’t even try to tell me that these are “different russians” and that they are not accountable for the actions of their government. No — they are accountable for their silence, complacency, and inaction. Moreover, many of them actively support their government and the genocide against the Ukrainian people.
1. Sport and government are inseparable in russia. Sport is financed by the state. Olympic medalists are paid by russian authorities.
2. Russian athletes are members of the russian military. Despite competing under a so-called “neutral” flag at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, russian military athletes won 14 out of 32 medals. These are the same military servicemen who are killing Ukrainians at this very moment.
3. Most russian athletes support the war and the russian regime. They can be seen standing side by side with Putin at major events, delivering patriotic speeches, and proudly wearing the “Z” symbol.
4. russia uses sport as a propaganda tool. Even if a russian athlete wins an Olympic medal under a white flag, the russian state will use it for propaganda and imperial purposes.
5. Ukrainian athletes must be protected. Hundreds have been killed by russians. Hundreds more have lost their limbs and will never compete again. Those who survived and can still compete face enormous disadvantages, as hundreds of sports facilities across Ukraine have been destroyed by the russian military.
I am the Ukrainian skeleton racer who was wrongfully disqualified from the Olympics last month because of my “Memory Helmet.”
Tonight in Milano-Cortina, the Paralympic Games are opening. The Committee has bizarrely permitted Russian soldier-athletes to participate under the Russian flag.
The head of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) literally stated that they don’t care about what Russian soldiers did in Ukraine. The problem is that we do care.
They are killing Ukrainians on the battlefield, bombing our cities, and committing genocide. Now, with this step of allowing them to compete, the IPC is giving them the opportunity to continue committing genocide by spreading Russian narratives with Russian flags and symbols.
They try to manipulate the situation by pointing out that the movement started after World War II, but during World War II the Olympic Games were cancelled, and German athletes were not invited and did not take part in the Games until 1952.
It looks like the head of the IPC doesn’t know the history of the Olympic and Paralympic movement at all.
What a shame.
This whole story is just getting worse and worse.
“My name is Darina. I’m 16. Next year, I will be earning 150,000 rubles a month. I work at the world’s largest drone factory. My parents are proud of me.”
russia employs children to help murder Ukrainian children.
These are the actual natural born killers. Chilling.
Absolutely disgraceful decision by the International Olympic Committee to disqualify Ukrainian athlete @heraskevych
Disqualified for what? For honoring the memory of fallen athletes — of Olympians who were killed.
This is nothing short of moral collapse.
Can conscience be bought with russian? Evidently, it can.
The IOC has banned not the Ukrainian athlete, but its own reputation. Future generations will recall this as a moment of shame.
He simply wanted to commemorate fellow athletes killed in war. There is nothing wrong with that under any rules or ethics.
The IOC intimidated, disrespected, and even lectured our athlete and other Ukrainians on how they should keep quiet about “one of 130 conflicts in the world”.
The IOC has also systemically failed to confront the greatest abuser of international sports and the Olympic Charter — Russia.
A country that started three invasions during the Olympic Truce in the past three decades, implemented the largest state-funded doping program, killed 650 Ukrainian athletes and coaches, and damaged 800 sports facilities in Ukraine.
These are Russians who must be banned, not the commemoration of their victims. None of them are “neutral”.
If the Olympic Creed says that “the most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part”, then @iocmedia betrayed it completely by preventing @heraskevych from taking part and betrayed 650 Ukrainian athletes and coaches killed by Russia.
We are proud to have Vladyslav who has not betrayed them. Thank you for your principles and bravery.
Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine has killed over 650 Ukrainian athletes and coaches. Hundreds of Ukrainian athletes will never again take part in international competitions because of Russia.
Russian attacks destroyed more than 800 sports facilities, including over 20 Olympic, Paralympic, and Deaflympic training centres.
The memory of the fallen and the documented crimes committed against Ukraine and its athletes must not be forgotten or silenced.
I want to thank everyone for all the support we’re receiving. There really is an incredible amount of it.
For me, the sacrifice of the people depicted on the helmet means more than any medal ever could - because they gave the most precious thing they had.
And simple respect toward them is exactly what I want to give.
His helmet bears portraits of our athletes who were killed by Russia. Figure skater Dmytro Sharpar, who was killed in combat near Bakhmut; Yevhen Malyshev, a 19-year-old biathlete killed by the occupiers near Kharkiv; and other Ukrainian athletes whose lives were taken by Russia’s war.
I thank the flag bearer of our national team at the Winter Olympics, Vladyslav Heraskevych, for reminding the world of the price of our struggle.
This truth cannot be inconvenient, inappropriate, or called a “political demonstration at a sporting event.” It is a reminder to the entire world of what modern Russia is.
And this is what reminds everyone of the global role of sport and the historic mission of the Olympic movement itself – it is all about peace and for the sake of life. Ukraine remains faithful to this. Russia proves the opposite.
Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych wore a special helmet during his first training sessions on the Olympic track.
It features portraits of Ukrainian athletes killed during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine – in total, it’s over 650 Ukrainian athletes and coaches.
Russia must be kept out of international sports as long as it continues the brutal aggression.
