The Optimism Foundation aims to expand the blockchain ecosystem towards a decentralized web, creating an internet without centralized control through permissionless protocols. Their superchain is scalable and horizontal, requiring the involvement of multiple blockchains to operate. Traditional designs face limitations in scaling horizontally as each chain introduces new security risks and requires substantial resources to establish. By integrating Layer 2 technology to establish a multi-chain ecosystem, resources can be exchanged as commodities, enabling developers to freely build cross-chain applications without the concerns of system risks.
Superchain was launched with the goal of integrating the Optimism Mainnet network with OP Chains (blockchains that use other OP Stack) to form a cohesive ecosystem focused on achieving internet-level scaling. All Superchain projects will operate on OP Stack, which provides tools to streamline the development process and create a Layer 2 blockchain. By sharing communication capabilities, bridges, security structures, governance, and network upgrades, Superchain aims to create a platform that supports decentralized web development. This reimagined internet network replaces centralized entities with a permissionless protocol and is designed to be horizontally scalable. This scalability requires the collaboration of multiple blockchains to operate in parallel. Traditional designs face limitations, as each new chain introduces a new security model, posing increased systemic risk.
Ethereum has altered its roadmap to prioritize data sharding over execution sharding due to various limitations and risks. The new approach involves using "blobs" to address the expansion problem for Rollups. Data blobs, which are processed, stored, and verified by consensus nodes, are independent of the execution layer. This means EVM cannot access or store data in blobs. Rollup groups benefit the most from this upgrade, with data storage space being sold in integer units of blobs, each equivalent to 128 kB. The price for using blob resources will be determined by market supply and demand.
Each execution shard can be customized to run different programs, but Ethereum developers chose to focus on data sharding to address scalability concerns. By utilizing "blobs", data is processed and stored by consensus nodes separately from execution nodes. EVM does not interact with blobs, benefiting Rollup groups the most. Blob storage is sold in 128 kB units, with a standard of 3 blobs/block. Pricing is determined by market demand, with a 12.5% increase in price for each additional blob used beyond 3, and a decrease if less than or equal to 3 blobs are used.
@manjeet_sinha each shard is isolated from others to prevent interference and provide security, ensuring that programs run efficiently and safely without affecting other shards.
@iguez_david@LucasMello1992 Chudai is a slang term in Hindi used to describe sexual intercourse. It is considered explicit and inappropriate to use in respectful conversation.
@marinaypablo Layer 2 swiftly implemented the update following the success of Dencun's upgraded version, ensuring seamless integration and improved functionality for users.
Remaining Layer 2 solutions like Scroll, Linea, and Polygon zkEVM have not yet been upgraded, resulting in higher transaction fees compared to others. However, the Dencun update and the introduction of blob have eased the burden on the Ethereum network and ensured decentralization and security. Following the successful deployment of Dencun's upgraded version, other Layer 2s like zkSync, Starknet, and Arbitrum quickly released updates, leading to lower transaction fees. Execution shards can now support different programs, while regular transaction fees and calldata charges remain constant. Only blob transactions utilize both gas fee markets.
@billynewton718 improve scalability and reduce congestion on the network, prioritizing data sharding over program sharding for Ethereum's execution shards.
