Canadians are entitled to MAID because it's a humane choice everyone in Canada can make. Hey @jerryagar1010. Cheesecake, burgers, alcohol, and cigarettes are all LEGAL AND REGULATED. They’re produced within a system of rules — should any of those items turn out to be poisoned and the Canadians consuming them drop dead, the government would take immediate action. 🧵

But:
➡️ Obese people don’t drop dead after eating a single cheeseburger because they already have a safer supply!

➡️ Alcoholics don’t instantly kick the bucket after one shot of whisky because they already have a safer supply!

➡️ Smokers don’t lose consciousness and oxygen to the brain after smoking a single cigarette because they already have a safer supply!

Do you see the difference yet? Those are all examples of poor lifestyle choices that can take time to correct. There’s no risk of instant death while you try to eat better or quit smoking or drinking. But our governments have failed to stop the production and sale of POISONED illicit street drugs. They continue to allow 10-12 Canadians to be poisoned by organized crime every day.

Harm reduction programs like supervised consumption or Prescribed Alternatives (safer supply) are NOT about “saving people from a destructive lifestyle,” as you state. We never said it was.

IT’S ABOUT SAVING PEOPLE FROM DEATH.

Until law enforcement can stop the production of deadly drugs by organized crime, or the recovery industry can magically make all addicts recover, this is what we have to save people and give them a chance to survive and thrive.

Also, from the study you quoted as proof that safer supply doesn’t work:
➡️ “Of 50 individuals receiving safer supply over the past year, there have been no overdose related deaths in the study population.”
➡️ Over 3/4 of the study participants were using their prescription, as demonstrated by urine drug screen.
➡️ Two participants were selling their prescription.

So because .04% of study participants said they’re selling their prescription, Jerry thinks we should leave everyone to die from poisoned drugs. (By the way NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE “enters the drug market” by taking someone else’s safer supply prescription. LOLOLOLOL. That’s just dumb. Kids start experimenting with booze, pot, mushrooms, party drugs. Sometimes with meds from grandma’s cabinet. Come on, use your brain.)

I don’t know what to tell you man. If you can’t understand the value of a human life, and that everyone should get the chance to improve it, the problem lies with YOU.
