It’s important to understand Utena’s naïveté comes from losing her parents at a young age! She is 14 years old. With no (nuclear) family structure. She’s traumatized- clinging to a past that really doesn’t exist. Partially, so she will not have to confront her parents’ death…
@dykessemble@anthysutena Not experiencing abuse doesn’t mean you can’t notice it. But you usually will when you are older and mature. Utena is fourteen years old, without a family, emotionally neglected, and so lonely she’s clinging onto a past that doesn’t exist so she won’t focus on losing her parents.
@dykessemble@anthysutena I disagree kind of… Utena’s naïvety comes from her age and lack of life experiences. She also never had a family. She wants a familial relationship so very badly, but she doesn’t understand the harmful nature of the nuclear family dynamic because she’s never experienced it.
@poyosorayaa My mutual actually mentioned this again and got me thinking about it… I think Utena fans are seriously just looking for a ‘healthy’ relationship where there isn’t one… The age difference wouldn’t be drastic regardless, but acknowledging that there clearly is one is important!
How Utena fans look at you
when you mention Anthy’s
victimhood, Kanae’s weird
symbolism with Anthy,
Mikage’s obvious age gap with
Mamiya, Mamiya’s sexual
abuse, and Utena being 14 in
an impossibly hard situation
for her to understand correctly.
