The Community Kitchen in Jagdamba Camp, Delhi, is a domestic worker-led care and support initiative to deliver one nutritious meal a day to 25 elderly and children in the community. Jagdamba Camp is home to 2850 domestic workers who work in the neighborhood, leaving children and the elderly at home. Their day starts at dawn, and most of the time they are not able to cook for their families before setting off to work.  The Samman Committee of domestic workers, decided to look after these elderly and children who were left hungry or had to beg for food during the day. The first contribution of Rs 5800 raised from community members and well-wishers helped them to start the community kitchen where the members took turns to cook and distribute the food. We hope to continue these not-so-small steps as part of the Workers Facilitation Centre in Jagdamba Camp. Keep watching this space for more information.
