Photoredox, electrosynthetic reaction mechanisms, and photochemistry of tattoos. New(ish) PI at Binghamton University (SUNY), father of two. Ally 🏳️🌈 BLM
Ever wonder what’s in a tattoo ink? Turns out lots of things that shouldn’t be there. Our latest in @an_chem finds that 90% of the tattoo inks we looked at had major discrepancies with the listed ingredients!!! 1/n

Feeling proud of @binghamtonu today for assuring that graduate student admissions continue unaffected and that we deliver on our commitments to admitted students!
I’m the dairy farmer running in the special election to replace Elise Stefanik in New York’s 21st Congressional District.
Can you repost this, give me a follow, and help spread the word?

Trump's proposal is ILLEGAL & amounts to an indiscriminate funding cut for research centers of all sizes, NOT just Ivies. It will mean shuttering labs across the country, layoffs in red & blue states, & derailing lifesaving research on everything from cancer to opioid addiction.
Grad students on this project get a pretty broad exposure to different techniques (TAS, qNMR, echem) and will work in a really supportive group environment. Previous students have done well w/ publications (both number and impact)

Just putting this out there but next fall my group will be taking on a new grad student for our mechanistic photochemistry work so if you have undergrads that are interested in studying mechanisms and kinetics, encourage them to apply to our PhD program (link below👇)
Overall, we think this is the first step in understanding how to rationally design photoredox chain reactions. Huge congrats to Annemarie for her first 1st author paper and on bringing this cool study to completion!
Proud to share our latest in @J_A_C_S. We report an in-depth kinetic and mechanistic investigation of a [4+2] chain photoredox rxn. 1/n

This could mean that some reaction run under intense light conditions could show chain reactivity under less intense conditions. Also, the modeling shows that QY for a chain reaction changes with light intensity - unlike non-chain reactions. 6/n
The first manuscript from our group at Penn State has appeared today in @ACSCatalysis!

1. The debate continues over why Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris. So far, it seems to be centered on two related arguments. One is that the vice president didn’t do enough to appeal to white working-class voters and their concerns about the economy. So they voted for Trump.
I have to agree. Politics is about storytelling and AOC and Mayor Pete are probably the best at it in the DNC right now. AOC gives this clearly thoughtful, articulated vision of progressive politics centered on working people. I’m starting to think she might have the right vision
This has a really struck a nerve among many Dems.
I've heard from countless House Dem sources telling me they couldn't disagree more with this take. Many pointed out AOC appeared with Pat Ryan close to the election and that Ryan cruised to victory in a tough seat
