@MMcCreesh I’m not sure if its pro or a con in Taiwan that Ride Taiwan Ride sounds a bit like Round Taiwan Round, an established tours company: https://t.co/q8kdPOJfi8
@shu_wang_gong Also it's frustrating that the linked post doesn't indicate HOW the person went from uni student to Gold Card, how long that took, what area they applied under, etc.
@shu_wang_gong AFAIK, foreign grads of TW unis can find jobs more easily, but they aren't legally req'd to be paid as much as foreign grads of foreign unis. So you can get a job, but you often get low pay.
FYI I know the subject of this article, FYI he's already moved to NZ.
@JohnChungEnLiu "Applications for parental leave were minimal; workers were unwilling to take leave w/o salary compensation. The gov added compensation at 60% of salary for 6 months of parental leave. Working women who give birth use the paid 6 months of leave but not the add'l 18 unpaid months"
@Nihaositgoing Sorry, looks like I spoke too soon:
Appears to me that the Gold Card Office is getting folded into / converted into a more general organization?
Still, I'm unable to find a website for this new Talent org, or to find it on Google Maps yet
@papagaeio I'm from nearby.
I highly recommend the MD Renaissance Festival if you go in the fall.
Basically Medieval Times for the whole day, in a forest, and everyone cosplays as medieval Brits.
Live Bands, plays, juggling, etc.

@VictoriaCoren@wynaliu@oatmemo@NYTGames@VictoriaCoren This should be a clue to BBC4 to do a BBC America version of Only Connect! I love the UK version, but as a septic I don't get lots of UK-centric clues.
Please do a (dumbed-down) USA-centric version and bring it across the pond!
@trickytaipei I think Tiki Republik in Fulong Beach did a great job of incorporating these pieces into their Tiki/beach vibe.
Also ideal for parents eating w/ young kids, doesn't matter if these old chairs get wet or sandy, just wipe them down!

Great video w/ high production values, showcasing Taipei. Really hooks you into some of the story of the city.
Worth sharing with fellow map nerds and travelers!
@Nihaositgoing @antoinesjc @RaphaelVerove On the flipside of that, I worked so much more overtime at a Taiwanese startup, with a much smaller salary, than when I worked at a larger, more-established company.
YMMV.
@Nihaositgoing @antoinesjc @RaphaelVerove Yes, look for startups on CakeResume or Yourator.
Companies like PicCollage and ViewSonic are good for foreigners too.
I'd love to see a yearly list of best, most accessible companies for international workers in Taiwan.
Different categories, diff. language abilities, etc.
