His research covers banking, financial markets, institutions, asset prices, and financial stability. From 2010–2024 he was an Economist and Senior Policy Advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, where he worked on financial stability, advised on FOMC issues, and led a system-wide team on Dodd-Frank stress-test results. Before that he was an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Michigan (2000–2008) and a visiting assistant professor/senior lecturer in economics and history at Yale (2008–2010); he has also taught as an adjunct at Northwestern. He has papers and Fed publications on topics like money markets, historical bank panics, momentum crashes, and monetary-policy implementation.
