@kane Less service means more traffic, higher prices for other means of getting around, and businesses with fewer staff and higher prices. Commuters were a subsidy on the entire city budget and SF is built on that $$ and now we have to chip in to keep the things that matter

@kane The system used to be paid for by office workers, and now that there are fewer of them, residents need to pick up more of the costs, or they will feel the effects of the system scaling back. Mass transit has high fixed costs and 20% less funding means 50% less of service

For 20% of SF's public transit budget you could buy and run a fleet of 15,000 Waymos and let everyone ride for free. Thats enough to cover the entire ridership of SF's public bus system with much better service.

Assumptions:

-$8k/year/waymo in operating costs
