to anybody struggling with addiction today, some specific tactics:
-whatever you’re addicted to, start a taper TODAY. i was on 80mg daily methadone for six years. started a taper at -2mg per week to 30mg and felt little discomfort. went inpatient at 5mg to nail the coffin closed. the lower the dose, the easier the ween. YOU CAN DO IT.
-it may seem like sorcery to you now, but i promise you exercise, better nutrition, and meditation will be your entire life in early recovery, so start TODAY. go walk around outside. put your phone away. GET ON A BIKE. start small. sweat out the demons. this is your new drug.
-zoom out and see the big picture. besides your family (if you’re lucky), the people around you will no longer be a part of your life moving forward. this includes friends, lovers, dealers etc. change every person in your life. cycle them out. in the grand scheme, you will reconnect with them, but it will be to try to help them out in the future.
-this one is tough, even still. the darkness is not your friend or your brand. your life is not requiem for a dream. you are not a juice wrld or nirvana or soundgarden song. killing yourself with drugs and alcohol is not your legacy. there is light at the end of the tunnel. see it. believe in it.
the biggest thing is that you believe how big this can be for you. a dead end job is not your ceiling. you heard me say it a million times, if you beat addiction or severe mental illness you are DIFFERENT. they are not like us. they will never understand us. your survival is a testament to a power they can never attain or control. harness it and you will rise like you never thought you could.
Animals actually do mourn their dead.
This is the heartbreaking moment a grieving koala mourns the death of his female companion in the Adelaide Hills.
