Just met a “retired a long time ago” reading teacher. I asked for her best tip for encouraging kids to read.
“Well,” she says, “I had a big, burly guy carry a claw foot bathtub into my classroom and declared it the Reading Tub. After that, kids fought to climb in & read.” 🛁 📚
"If only you could, some way, forgive me." He breathed in and waited.
She looked at her toes. Why should the injured, the still bleeding, bear the burden of forgiveness? She didn't answer.
“One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. ‘Which road do I take?’ she asked. ‘Where do you want to go?’ was his response. ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it doesn’t matter.’”
Annihilation is always the answer. We destroy parts of ourselves every day. We Photoshop our warts away. We edit the parts we hate about ourselves, modify the parts we think people hate. We curate our identity, carve it, distill it. Krista’s wrong. Annihilation is all we are.
