Hidden camera recording catches a data center developer in Piedmont, Oklahoma saying it doesn’t matter if residents oppose his data center project

The reason their city was chosen was because of the power infrastructure they need, resident outrage doesn’t matter

Resident “I mean, but the citizens here are telling you that they don't want you here. Do, do you like going to communities where you're not really wanted?”

Developer “Um, we work in a lot of different communities and have a lot of different reactions” (obviously negative reactions)

Resident “But these people are clearly showing you that they don't want you here. So do you not think that when a citizens in a, in a community shows you that they don't want you here in their town, that maybe you should look to go locate your business elsewhere?”

Developer “We look for strong spots on the grid, and that's what we have here”

Resident “So you're just basically here not because you like the city of Piedmont, but because you like the power infrastructure and things like that?”

Developer “The power infrastructure is very good”

They openly admit they don’t care about the residents, they don’t care about the town or the issues the data center will cause, they are here for the power

🚨 ECONOMICS 101: A GREEN SONY CHART DOESN'T MEAN PLAYSTATION ISN'T FEELING PRESSURE.

OH THEY FEEL IT ALRIGHT..

BUT.

Someone responded to my post about the PlayStation blackout by clipping a picture of Sony's stock sitting in the green.

So, Apparently we're going to have a little economics lesson today. 😂

First things first:

THERE IS NO SEPARATE "PLAYSTATION STOCK."

PlayStation operates inside Sony Group under its Game & Network Services division. Sony's stock represents a massive corporation with multiple major businesses moving underneath the same roof:

👉Game & Network Services- PlayStation, Music, Pictures, Entertainment, Technology & Services,Imaging & Sensing Solutions

So Sony stock can be GREEN while one division is getting punched in the mouth.

That's not unusual-happens all the time

Movies could perform well.
Music could perform well.
Image sensors could perform well.
Currency movements can matter.
Investor expectations can change.
The overall market can move.
Sony can buy back shares.
Blah blah blah blah...

All of those things can affect the SAME Sony stock price.

"A green candle does not magically mean: "Gamers aren't having an effect."

That's not how economics works.

And here's the part people really shouldn't ignore:

PlayStation's Game & Network Services division generated roughly 4.57 TRILLION Yen in customer sales during Sony's last fiscal year.

So, this isn't some side business selling coffee mugs out of Sony headquarters.

PLAYSTATION MATTERS TO SONY'S BOTTOM LINE.

Now let me be equally clear about something else. I'm not going to look at every red day in Sony stock and scream:
"THE BLACKOUT DID THAT!"

That would be just as intellectually dishonest. A consumer blackout isn't a day-trading experiment.

The question is what happens over TIME if enough customers stop buying games, stop renewing services, stop purchasing hardware and accessories, and start moving their money somewhere else.

THAT'S where consumer pressure eventually becomes economic pressure.

And before you say Sony doesn't listen to angry gamers...

Um, History would like a word.

Sony planned to close the PS3 and Vita stores in 2021.

Gamers raised hell.
Sony reversed course.

The Helldivers 2 PSN account requirement blew up in their faces.

Gamers raised hell.
Sony reversed course.

Concord crashed spectacularly.
Sony listened to the response, pulled the game and refunded customers.

So in full transparency.:

If organized customer feedback has gotten Sony's attention before...

"WHY SHOULD THIS BE ANY DIFFERENT?"

The PlayStation blackout was never about watching one little green or red arrow on somebody's phone.

It's about reminding Sony that customers ultimately control the one thing every corporation understands:

"WHERE WE SPEND OUR MF MONEY."

You want to disagree with the blackout? Fine. It's your right...

But please understand what you're looking at before posting a stock chart like it's a mic drop.

🚨 THIS IS WHERE IT MATTERS-SONY HAS A NEW PROBLEM-THE BLACKOUT JUST ESCAPED THE GAMING BUBBLE!

Things are getting interesting.

For weeks, Sony could probably look at the #PSBlackout and dismiss it as angry gamers, collectors and preservation advocates making noise on social media. You know, all of us!

Well not anymore. The Genie is out of the bottle!

The Guardian is now covering it. Polygon is covering it. TechRadar, Tom's Hardware, GamesRadar and others are talking about it.

And the conversation is getting bigger than PlayStation.

It's becoming a conversation about ownership. Consumer rights. Preservation. And how much control a corporation should have over something you paid for.

Well Sony should be paying attention to it's consumer base.

The PlayStation blackout runs through August 30, with players being encouraged to stay off PSN and stop spending money in protest of Sony's move away from physical games.

I digress...

Then, right in the middle of that backlash, Sony reminded customers that its software is licensed-not sold.

Um, Read the room, Sony.

Their answer-PlayStation is explaining why you don't really own the digital games you've purchased, Xbox just announced a disc-to-digital program that begins testing August 31.

Insert a supported Xbox disc.
Claim a digital entitlement.
Keep using the physical media. The cool thing is you can play the game across multiple platforms as long as the disc contains Xbox Anywhere.

The timing couldn't make Sony's position look much worse.

Also-there's another date worth remembering:

August 31.

That's also Sony Interactive Entertainment's current deadline to answer or otherwise respond in the consolidated federal Sony Interactive Entertainment Tariff Litigation.

None of this means Sony is suddenly going to reverse course tomorrow. But something important HAS changed.

Gamers aren't screaming into an empty room anymore. The story escaped.

And once a consumer revolt becomes a mainstream conversation about ownership and corporate control, ignoring it becomes a whole lot harder.

Sony wanted an all-digital future.

But, it may have accidentally started a much bigger conversation about whether consumers are willing to live in one.

No Disc. No Buy.

Workers arriving for shifts were directed to the cafeteria and given letters confirming the permanent shutdown

“Tyson told shareholders they expect losses around $650 million this fiscal year in its beef processing sector alone. Company officials claim cattle shortages and high livestock costs are to blame for that massive loss. But that reasoning doesn't do much for the workers who now only have a few weeks to find where their next paycheck is coming from”
