No matter how in the weeds or pedantic prison abolition discourse gets, it shouldn't distract you from the fact that the American carceral system is truly one of the great evils of our time, and its dismantling is a necessary task for any communist.
I can never not think of the children. Alone and trapped. Under the rubble in Gaza. Sitting in ICE cages. In a room on Epstein Island. At the bottom of a Congolese Coltan mine. I always think of the fear. Think back to those moments where fear engulfed you as a child; how traumatizing it was.
It is always the children who suffer the most; alway the first robbed of life. Alway the first these corporate death machine and empires feed on to sustain themselves.
Think of what kind of a world we leave behind for them; think of what kind of a world it is built and sustained through their blood, exploitation and abuse.
How sickened and revolted we should be. The children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe— as Baldwin said.
@aneurysms_4ever@yummy2tuff@tiktakahas@IzukoKuroda@Pinakisser you underestimate the resourcefulness of people who've lived in those hills for generations. ain't no dollar generals in the holler where my grandad grew up, just knowlegde passed down through generations. Appalachia is resilient and rich in nature. cash poor doesn't mean stupid
@arno_rocky@IzukoKuroda@tiktakahas@Pinakisser the Appalachian mountains are actually bountiful in edible plants and game and have some of the richest, most nutrient-dense soil in the country. it's just bad land for large-scale monoculture crops, so people don't think you can farm it
@LMezzabifera@MrsRoyKeaneo it's a train wreck, but to think it's above understanding is to fall victim to the strategy of using chaos to avoid accountability. the US is still the global hegemon with some weight to throw around, even if the idiots in charge don't know how to use it
@LincolnPhilo@RichardHanania and you think Republican lawmakers have sophrosyne?? those guys gave up self-control and basic human decency in the Nixon era
i do think we need to impose, like, way more rigorous schooling on kids. they should have to read books that challenge them. they need to learn at least a second language. they should be forced to memorize and recite poetry. idgaf
@LMezzabifera@MrsRoyKeaneo not true. Israel is the USA's rabid dog and unsinkable aircraft character. the state of Israel would not exist without the US. if the pentagon pulled all its money out tomorrow, the entire landscape would change in an instant
“We could make these if we wanted to, it’s just not profitable” “We can win the war at any time, we just haven’t taken the gloves off yet” so many Americans live in a fantasy land where the US is still capable of anything besides debt trading and throwing poor people in jail
@LongHanswill@intentionalisms are you going to write a bunch of tweets around the modern Christian Identity movement connection to domestic right-wing terror to compliment? after all, American Christianity is a religion of hierarchy, control, and total, violent dominance over any perceived opposition
@LMezzabifera@MrsRoyKeaneo my friend's uncle has videos of Israeli rockets hitting his apartment block. Israel is deliberately targeting local journalists and blocking foreign ones from entering. large disrusption of everyday events is how you get public attention and policy change
@ETCviperidae@ErwinHugger I mean, he also slaughtered millions in Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam after sabotaging peace talks. and he made cannabis illegal
@BorgarYukari@ErwinHugger you find it relatable to needlessly kill millions more by deliberately sabotaging peace talks to end the Vietnam war so your opponent loses the election? you find it relatable to carpet bomb Cambodia and Laos? look outside the US, and you'll understand the Nixon hate
