While there are not big differences in regional styles in Korean hip hop, there are subtle changes. This can relate to regional differences in the US, like hip hop based in LA, Chicago, or New York.

What do you think Hanguk hip hop is?
I think that Hanguk hip hop has very different parameters from American hip hop, and had adjusted to the time period that it is being performed/celebrated. Like American hip hop, Hanguk hip hop allows artists to talk about different issues.

Regionalism is another part of #HangukHipHop that affects the individual styles. Dialect and language styles already define Korean hip hop from American hip hop, especially its its developmental stage.

A K/J rapper known as Chanmina, for example, uses hip hop and her music videos to talk about what is considered taboo. (Promiscuity, LGBTQ, etc). This is creating new ideas, concepts, and representation out of original styles of music.

Cultural appropriation from creating hip hop/rap music can be seen when an artist is actively mocking the group/people of origin. For example, an artist from C/J/K wearing dreads in their hair, using racist language, or mocking speech patterns is considered cultural appropriation

However, this can be easily confused with cultural appreciation, which is often the case with many hip hop artists from C/J/K. Creating new music in the styles or influence of hip hop adds to the expression of creativity and entertainment.

@noelle_1216 Human idols, on the other hand can make mistakes, and will. There is a desire for perfection, and the artificial nature and idealization of virtual idols can satisfy that. However, many people still enjoy the presence of human idols, because they offer a sense of reality.

@noelle_1216 Marketing strategies are very different between virtual and human #idols. Virtual idols can be marketed as “perfect”, and essentially controlled by how they’re programmed. Virtual idols don’t have scandals of any form, and are designed to please an audience.

While gay/LGBTQ+ men can enjoy #BL, it is mainly targeted towards women, and fits into the standards of their gaze, and what they want to see between two men. In this way, BL can have negative stereotypes, both for LGBTQ+ men, and the idea of consensual relationships.

#BoysLove manga has a widespread audience that mainly consists of young women, from their teens to their 20s. Several creators of this manga are also women too, so it’s created by women, usually for women. This form of media allows for a sexual outlet for women.

Patriarchal control over media has caused women to create their own space for sexual/romantic desires. For the majority of history, sexual desires through media have been targeted towards men only, without any thought for women.
