Ustedes están viendo el problema desde una perspectiva diferente. Estados Unidos tiene una enorme deuda y, mientras tanto, muchos estadounidenses que trabajan a tiempo completo están luchando para sobrevivir por el alto costo de la vivienda, la comida, la gasolina y otros gastos básicos.

Mi preocupación con la inmigración no es simplemente que una persona venga a buscar una vida mejor. El problema es cuando existen familias que, según las reglas de ciertos programas, pueden acceder a beneficios públicos mientras hay ciudadanos estadounidenses que trabajan legalmente, pagan impuestos y aun así no califican para suficiente ayuda para mantener a sus propios hijos.

Por ejemplo, imagina a un estadounidense trabajando 40 horas a la semana a $20 la hora, con tres hijos, pagando renta, comida, gasolina y demás gastos. Puede estar trabajando honestamente y aun así no llegar a fin de mes. Al mismo tiempo, imagina otra familia que declara una situación económica diferente y termina calificando para múltiples programas de asistencia.

La pregunta que planteo es: ¿cómo diseñamos un sistema que proteja primero a las familias que viven y trabajan aquí, sin importar su raza, mientras también combatimos el fraude y hacemos cumplir las mismas reglas para todos?

No creo que ningún ciudadano trabajador debería sentirse castigado por trabajar, pagar impuestos y tratar de mantener a su familia.
