Theory met practice today. In the group negotiation exercise, participants took the 5 stages straight off the slide and into the room:
1️⃣ Open: person, trust, connection
2️⃣ Information exchange
3️⃣ Bargain
4️⃣ Hurdles: overcome
5️⃣ Closure: agreement
No script, no shortcuts — just real stakeholders, real friction, and real agreements built stage by stage. Then straight into a structured debrief, where the room broke down what worked, what stalled, and what they'd do differently next time.
From instinct to structure — that's what mastery looks like.

EALS at the table.
Yesterday, EALS Secretariat joined leaders from across the region for the 2nd EAC Women's Intergenerational Dialogue at the EAC Secretariat in Arusha, under the theme "Women Leading the Digital Future: Harnessing Technology, Innovation and Emerging Opportunities for Mentorship and Transformative Leadership in East Africa."
The message of the day was urgent and clear.
Hon. Amb. Fatuma Ndangiza, Chairperson of the EALA Women's Caucus: "Our mission is to champion gender equality and empowerment, and we will not rest until it becomes a reality. We have to be at the table. If not, we shall be the menu."
Hon. Amb. Stephen P. Mbundi, Secretary General of the East African Community, put the question squarely: will the women of East Africa lead the region's digital transformation, or live with the consequences of decisions made by others? His charge to the room was simple. Speak, disagree, decide, and bring others with you.
And in officially opening the Dialogue, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga reminded us that the men are not going to wait. She called on organisations to fund scholarships and support the girl child in education, warning that the numbers of girls in digital and related fields are shrinking, and that time is not on our side.
EALS stands firmly behind this agenda. Advancing women in the profession and in the region is not a side conversation. It is the future of East African integration.
