Keynote speech by Dr Amir Zeldes “Subject prominence revisited: What makes entities salient?” examines why some entities stand out in discourse. His take: salience isn’t just a surface category, but is characterised by cues, relations, hierarchies, genre and other.
Listening to Dr Dan Zeman’s keynote Auxiliaries across Languages and Frameworks on how auxiliaries (verbs & particles) are treated in dependency treebanks. He focuses on Universal Dependencies and the Prague family of treebanks, rooted in the Functional Generative Description.

NLP is still focused on English, which puts other languages at a disadvantage. To ensure fairness and better performance, multilingualism must be at the centre of NLP development.
