@Timobay_ Great perspective! I've also had this thought, and if there are breakthroughs in their DNA that DO end up helping us as a species, it gives fishermen even more of an incentive to exploit them. That's why more restrictions need to be set ASAP! #ENVIR400
In researching for my #lightningtalk topic, I learned that #sharks are very valuable to medical research! With their fast healing and resistance to diseases, studying their DNA furthers our cancer research! #ENVIR400

Hey @WilhelmDem! I loved your #lightningtalk about #ecotourism and the sad reality that it's never treated as intended. You mentioned examples of bad ecotourism, but what about places with good ecotourism? #ENVIR400
@lucyterry23 Eliminating bycatch in the process would be almost impossible. It would put a serious dent in our total catch per year, especially with the geographical ranges at which sharks roam. They're better set for island countries because they are more manageable, but also diverse!
@lucyterry23 Great question! The difficult part about shark sanctuaries is to, of course, prohibit the fishing and sale of sharks and their resources, but also bycatch! I think if we set aside waters in the US to shark sanctuaries, but also try to maintain our commercial fisheries (1)
Aah!! Still super nervous to present my #lightningtalk on Wednesday. I'm so afraid I'll stumble and be unable to get back up and catch up to the timing. Any tips? I'm excited to see the presentations for today!! #ENVIR400
@SyonaNR@envir400 I've been scared of sharks for way too long especially when they should really be the ones afraid of us! Here's an interesting graphic to consider from @/connectforcause on Instagram
@_ariayang@AvHays12@SustainableStob Definitely an issue! Around campus there are boxes above the bins that does a good job (for the most part) but in other places on campus, people are clueless. This lack of knowledge leads to #CompostContamination. I wish it could be taught early on! #ENVIR400
I've been researching #sharkfinning and more ways we can protect #sharks! @Curly_Biologist, as a shark scientist, what are the best ways to protect these wonderful animals? #ENVIR400
There are multiple things I can take away from @uwpoe's seminar with @johnfocook, and I'll list them here in a thread as a good send-off! #EnviroComm22
3. People can connect with humor or cartoons just a bit more than they can with other forms of serious diagrams or graphics. #humor is a useful tool in science and I love that! #EnviroComm22
This game allows the player to progress by thinking critically, with levels and points to earn! This sounds pretty fun to me and I may even check it out! #EnviroComm22
Cook digs into FLICC that I mentioned in a previous tweet, showing a HUGE branching tree of science denial characteristics. He even plans to add 2 more! #EnviroComm22
In @johnfocook's game, Crazy Uncle explains many of these characteristics, and even lets the player practice by identifying them in a choice-based activity. #EnviroComm22
And even then, logic-based approaches seem to do just a bit better than fact-based approaches. Saying "CO2 is plant food" is just like saying that humans need calcium, so all we need to eat is ice cream. That certainly doesn't make sense. #EnviroComm22
